European Moon Mission Ready for Launch

merryprankster writes "Europe's first mission to the Moon is set for blast off from Kourou in French Guiana just after midnight, local time, on Sunday. SMART 1 will study the composition of lunar rock through X-ray observations. The probe uses a new solar electric propulsion system which converts solar energy its panels into motion via the expulsion of ions. Details at the ESA mission site."

I am a fisherman, and I fish out in the North Sea, near oil-rigs. I mainly fish for crabs but generally sell anything I catch. On my small boat is a laptop with Linux installed, which is running open source software for controlling the electronical fishing rods, which hauntingly swing and sway above the cold blue surface of the sea.

While I find being able to administer my fiashing rods from the powerful BASH shell both efficient, safe and empowering, this software has a bug which causes a huge 20 farad capacitor in the rod to discharge into the ocean at random intervals. The voltage induced is so large that it causes various potentially hazardous metals to be come electroplated to the hull of my ship. Often by the time I reach harbour my ship is so laden with electrolysed metal that it is barely bouyant, and occasionally I am not allowed entry.

This is killing my buisnes. While I love the ideals of Linux, the inherent instability is not tolerable. So I am asking, are there any quality fishing-rod control programs available for Windows or Apple operating systems?

    TIA!

Why don't you sell all that accumulated metal and hire a professional to write the fishing-rod control program? Hell, since you'd start from the scratch, you wouldn't have to share the source with the dirty hippies and you could close it and sell it!

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Poverty in the United States rose for the second straight year in 2002, while median incomes fell for the third straight year, the government said Friday.

The percentage of Americans living in poverty rose to 12.1 percent from 11.7 percent in 2001, the Census Bureau reported, the highest rate since 12.9 percent in 1998.

Median household income fell 1.1 percent to $42,409 from $42,900 in 2001. Median income was $43,848 in 2000 and $43,915 in 1999.

The Census Bureau blamed the recession that began in March 2001 and ended in November 2001 -- according to the National Bureau of Economic Research -- for the changes in both measures.
