Apparently the source code was stolen when Gabe Newell was distracted with 4 dozen donuts, which he ate in about 5 seconds but it was long enough for somebody to swipe the code. Also Gabe ate everybody's lunch at Valve, 3 PCs, an intern, and a VW bug before he was brough under control.
No doubt Penny Arcade will have a humorless and confusing cartoon about this within the next year or so.
