Apple Forcing Panther Upgrade for Security Patch
The Raindog writes "I noticed over at Tech Report that Apple is apparently only offering its latest round of OS X security fixes to Panther users, leaving older versions of OS X out in the cold. " Update: 10/31 by J : But see
the next day's story.
My job duties involve frequent copying of 17 MB files from one location to another. A little bit routine, but it's not being outsourced any time soon, and the benefits package is great.
So far Apple Mac OS has proven to have the worst performance in our benchmarks. Let's get real - after you spend about $2000 on hardware and application licensing, not only you don't get the source of the OS, but the file transfers are slow as molasses.
How APPL manages to stay in business is a secret for me. Perhaps the money from Britney Spears tunes could be invested into MacOS Fast Copying division.
Sorry, to spoil it.
Sorry to spoil it.

Nothing new here. I have an origional iPod. The firmware for the newer iPod's adds on-the-fly playlist support, something I've been requesting since I got mine. Guess what, Apple doesn't want to backport it because they think they can resell customers on a newer iPod for this feature, what a load of crap. Then the launch the Apple music store for Windows, guess what, the firmware available for the series 1 and 2 iPod's can't play the signed AAC files if they are formatted for FAT, HPFS formatted ones can though. I have emailed Apple about both of these issues and haven't recieved so much as a simple response.
There are 4 boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order. Starting now.
They should've both died (and stayed dead) in reloaded. What a disappointment that one was. Glad I didn't pay for that crap. God bless suprnova.org
I wish youd come "own" this debian box of mine, ive been trying explit after exploit for various services that are old with out much luck.
The box in question i used for a home gateway in 99/00 and just put it under the bed once done with it. I cant for the life fo me remember the root password, I do have several user accounts that do me no good. There are a few thigs that i would like to get off the box but cant mount the floppy or change the network interface properties, booting in single usermode requires root password, and booting directly into a shell mounts the file systems r/o. I could download a single floppy distro but am having more fun trying to take advantage of an old exploit. So far ive typed out two proftpd explites with no success, im moving onto php/apache next.
Can't you just remount your drive as r/w (mount / -o remount) after you've booted into shell and then simply make the root password blank?
thanks for the tip, fstab said that drives would be remounted ro so i never tried!
As for being modded as flaimbait what the hell, im was serious! I could see offtopic but WTF?
