Three More Solar Flares
Evil Adrian writes "Space.com reports that the sun shot off three more solar flares on Monday. This is quite a historic period for solar activity." The article breaks down the recent flares, and what the effects have been. Update: 11/05 01:57 GMT by T : cyberMalex writes "Space.com is reporting the 10th in a string of major solar flares which have been errupting from the sun over the past two weeks. "This one saturated the X-ray detectors on the NOAA's GOES satellites that monitor the Sun. The jury is therefore out on the definitive classification of the flare." "Other scientists have indicated the flare may indeed be an X20 or stronger. Only one X20 event has been seen in recent years, and it was not Earth-directed and had little effect.""

fire-ant torture? huh? i musta missed something, got any linkage?
All you flares are belong to us
There was the Battle of Hastings in England in 1066. Unfortunately, the native Americans did not keep good records of major battles in what is now America at that time, so I'm afraid we don't have much to go on there. But what is for sure, we are much better at keeping decent records than we were in 1066, so it is very probable quite a significant amount will be "on record" and known about by future historians, if not much talked about by the average person of the time.
Think about it, can YOU name any war that happened 1000 years ago? How about all the leaders of a country somewhere?
Battle of Hastings in 1066. William the conquerer led that.

Right off the top of my head... the Battle of Hastings happened October 14, 1066. It was the conclusion of a period of war between the Saxons and the Normans, and the start of the Anglo-Saxon race that would eventually found a little colony called America.
The leader of the Normans was Guilliam, aka William the Conquorer. The leader of the Saxons was King Harold, himself of partially-Norman descent.
Norman and Saxon, BTW, are shorthands of the ancient terms for northman and southman.
I am disrespectful to dirt! Can you see that I am serious?!
Wow, put that down for one of the most offtopic threadjacks ever.

And will she still be able to go back to
being just an ordinary girl again?
uhh...The Peloponnesian war took place more than 2000 years ago, NOT 1000 years ago.
besides with Rome, it was less about specific wars, they were in perpetual war mode. you have to look at invasions, like the invasion of Hannibal and his tactics that are STILL studied in Military academies all over the world, or the invasion of the Huns, or the invasion of the Goths and Visigoths.
I guess you could slice it into campaigns like Caesar's conquest of Gaul, but that is pretty pointless when talking about wars. the Roman Empire was so huge for its time that a campaign in one part of the empire was hardly even talked about on the other side of the empire.
I am the Alpha and the Omega-3
William the Conqueror & his wars in 1066.
That's the closest I know, offhand, to anything 1000 years ago.
I wish I had my Revelations better memorized.
Why?
That is the saddest pick up line I have heard in years
Smitten. If you're going to conjugate archaic irregular verbs, do it right. Beget, begat, begotten!
Shutting down free speech with violence isn't fighting fascism. It IS fascism!
I, for one, never really missed the romans that much...

how about, "Imagine a cluster of solar flares!"
Now those goofy conservatives will finally see that Solar Warming is a real and dangerous threat to earth's future.
It is interesting that these flares happened just after the chinese finally made it to space...
You can't forget the classic "All your flares are belong to us!".
There's only two things I can't stand - people who
are intolerate of other people's cultures, and the Dutch
No...
Yea, what have the Roman's done for us anyway, besides the aqueduct?
I have said it once and i will say it again.
Had he not thown all those nuclear weapons at the Sun we wouldn't have the sun attacking us like this.
"Quest for World Peace" Yeah right!! Now we have angered the sun gods and they will be bombarded by Coronal Mass Ejections for the rest of our lives and eventually the world will look like the moon.
Thanks a whole lot superman! You freaking alien git!!!
Tsukasa: All I really want, is to be left alone...
We never think about the Christian Crusades anymore, we never think about the Romans storming every country they can and throwing people in pits to fight.
There are some wars that make good movies.
Can you ping me now?... Good!
"There are no solar flares in space. None. Never! God will roast their stomaches in hell at the hands of sunscreen!"
Keep up the good work asshat. You have once again impressed us with the fact that you consistently fail to get EffPee and what posts you do make get pushed so far down that no one even cares. YOU ARE A FAILURE!!!
