Uranium Pebbles May Light the Way
kristy_christie writes "According to Wired News, South Africa's state-run utility giant Eskom and its international partners want to build the world's first commercial 'pebble bed' reactor, which, instead of using fuel rods, 'is packed with tennis ball-size graphite "pebbles," each containing thousands of tiny uranium dioxide particles'. To developers, the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor promises a rebirth of nuclear energy. Proponents insist that the reactor's design features make it 'meltdown-proof' and 'walk-away safe'."
Using Google's image search, I have uncovered pictures that are clear evidence that these people use child workers to assemble these reactors.
N.b. I would mirror these myself rather than linking directly, but the only web space I have is on a friend's ADSL connection.
idiots!
... when heisenberg build the first
... basically the same like a coal
...
...
nuclear reactors are NOT safe. never will be.
it's so stupid to use uranium to heat
water/helium which then turns a turbine.
what appens to the excess heat? throw it away?
nuclear is unsafe because we don't know anything
about it, besides that if we pile a ton of da
stuff on top of itself it starts to get warm/
hot
heavy water reactor it got critical and he
had to call the firedepartment. they had to
spray water on the reactor for hours to cool
it below critical temperatur. history tells
us all sorts of things. nobody seems to care.
this me-here-now mentality is gong to get us
and future killed! just look at how many
scientists in the field of nuclear physics have
died from cancer!
"90% chance of getting cancer? be a nuclear scientist(tm)!"
the implications of E=mc^2 are not fully
understood and just because some people are not
not sensitive e.g. blocks doesn't give them the
right to just override other peoples feelings.
some people are sensitve and can feel (yes feel)
nuclear reactors miles away!
basically uranium is like coal. you burn them
to generate heat. just burn it on a atomic/sub-
atomic level
plant.
we don't know what happens to space-time when a
uranium nucleous gets split and emits energy.
methinks it is a spacetime pollution and not
fully understood. like throwing a stone in mud
this leaves a crater and maybe da same happens to
space-time when a uranium atom gets split. we
THINK it's safe cause like alot of things that we
can't see we belive does not exist and is safe
(NOT!).
anyway stop using the stuff. it will be required
later in history when we will have time-travel
(e.g. teleportation) that uranium will become
really really usefull and be used for what is is
meant to be used for
please stop using uranium plutonium to make
electricity!
p.s. some people can feel 5V and a few milliamp
with at the tip of their fingers. some can't
even feel 110V!!! think about which ones want
a pebble uranium reactor
> It's spelled "Chernobyl".
Let me guess...American? Ahh, the typical arrogance of stupid, fucking Americans never ceases to refresh and entertain me.
It's spelled "BOOM". Rare enough, but those "accidents" at nuclear power plants cause enough damage, like nuking 25% of Ukraine, that they make the entire industry unsafe. If we're going to bet your energy budget on a "random", yet inevitable, nuclear fission event, because the boom when it inevitably occurs is so large, we can't deny the macroscopic parallel of unpredicted, yet statistically inevitable, exploding power plants that nuke entire countries. In for a penny, in for a pound.

There are reports of operators sitting on the control board and people showing up to work drunk. In my opinion, anything that might kill thousands of people while handled by a drunk should be illegal.
