Open Source Bill For Australian Capital Territory

leinad writes "An article in The Age newspaper claims the Australian Capital Territory is set to become the first jurisdiction in the country to adopt a bill which says that public bodies should, as far as practicable, consider the use of open source software when procuring computer software. (The Australian Capital Territory is the small territory/state of Australia in which Canberra, the capital of Australia, is located.)" Seems like requiring blueprints from contractors, to me.

      If you can't handle your own job well enough to provide your own job security then you deserve to have your job outsourced. If someone else is capable of doing your job for cheaper than you can provide it, than a company would be stupid for not jumping on the opportunity. You can cry about it, or you can try to actually be productive at your job instead of sitting around crying on Slashdot and talking in Limp Bizkit chats on AIM all day.

    The most ironic part of it all is that the entire Australian Parliament depends on the Exchange/Outlook combination.. which, last time I checked, had a very far from open protocol (if you take a close look at the bill it mentions protocols specifically).
