Gran Turismo 4 - Under The Hood, Driving The Prologue

Thanks to Motor Trend for their feature documenting the extreme attention to detail being lavished on Gran Turismo 4 for PlayStation 2, as the franchise, which "has sold more than 30 million units worldwide", gears up to a 2004 release for this latest iteration. According to the article, "between 20,000 and 30,000 digital photographs are taken" to faithfully reproduce the real-life racetracks used in the game, and there's also a behind the scenes feature on a 150-vehicle capture session in Japan, each car being "systematically studied and logged so the design team could faithfully recreate [it in-game]." Elsewhere, 1UP has a hands-on look at the Japan-only Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, a budget-priced preview which they consider "isn't worth the purchase for any except the most obsessive Gran Turismo fans."     C'mon I can't believe for a second that this game will be realistic. GT 1, 2, and 3 are the reason why so many people believe that a simple muffler/intake can add 50hp to your car. Realism is thrown out the window in the game. Until they add either car damage or part wear I'll pass on saying its a driving simulation, its pure arcade.

    I mean I know they'll be using the best textures they can and make the cars look beautiful, but adding a turbo and cranking up the boost to get 600 Hp out of a 1.6L civic and then not letting the mustang or camero in the game get any higher in power than that same 600 HP is just plain stupid. Not to mention that the handling of the cars never seem to be adversly affected by extreme high power output. I could go on forever about how "real" the game is but I think I'm dangerously close to becoming a troll.
