Reality: You'll be lucky to hear from people merely using your code, much less those interested in modifying it."

    Very true! I'm sure that Linus and Alan would just be overlooked in the software world.

    Reality: Being an Open Source Software Writer can help you get a JOB writing open source software! But perhaps not writing Windows....
