DARPA-Funded Linux Security Hub Withers

mAriuZ writes "Initially funded by a grant from the Pentagon's DARPA, the Sardonix project aspired to replace the Linux security review process with a public website that meticulously tracks which code has been audited for security holes, and by whom. As conceived by Crispin Cowan, Sardonix was to attract volunteer auditors by automatically ranking them according to the amount of code they've examined, and the number of security holes they've found. Auditors would lose points if a subsequent audit by someone else turned up bugs they missed. ... In the end, though, nobody showed up."

This will probably be big news tomorrow morning. In Europe this would be no big deal. Tabloids routinely have topless pictures featured on the frontpage. The US has the among the worst teen pregnancy rates in the industrialized world and yet has one of the strongest population of religious conservatives.

Unwanted pregnancies have nothing to do with a liberated society (sexually or otherwise), it is more a function of education, something the US is definitely lacking. Also realize that the bulk of the teen pregnancies are coming from the impoverished and low income side of society. The suburbanites watching MTV are not where the majority of teen pregnancies are coming from.

Refusal to accept this truth (that sexual freedom does not imply unwanted pregnancies and STDs) continues to keep the US as a 2nd world country in terms of public health.

      Really, THINK PEOPLE.

'Tabloids' in Europe lack a lot of credibility. There are also plain black-and-white newspapers in Europe that don't feature nudity on the front page.

Here in the US, granted, our Tabloids focus on things like 'Lizard Boy impregnated Elvis' with lurid photoshopped pictures on the cover. I guess we're more 'hung up' or someting in what we shovel at the 'lower classes' in the supermarket checkout aisle than they are in Europe.

      Whatever.

What does credibility of tabloids have to do with the fact that they feature nudity on supermarket shelves. They do.

My point was to refute the notion that public displays of nudity are the cause of teen pregnancies. The OP was claiming that their might be a causal relationship between the display on the Superbowl and the high rate of teen pregnancy in the US. In Europe, there is a much more lax view to sex and nudity in public forums, and yet teenagers over there aren't cranking babies out at the rate they are in the States.
