Notacon: Because Your Brain Has A Right Side, Too
jeffg writes "For one weekend in April, presenters and attendees will descend upon Cleveland for Notacon, in an attempt to break all your assumptions about technology conferences. Yes, there will be a LAN and plenty of technical talks, but you probably weren't expecting art exhibits, live musicians, and weird contests! Notacon will bridge the gap between art and technology, bringing together performers, speakers, and artists from a wide variety of fields. Will you be part of it?" Specifically, that weekend is April 23-25.
...you'll forget you're in Cleveland!
Cleveland. Maybe someone will get stuck on the plane next to that guy from the Travelocity commercial. That would be a trip worth taking, he's cool.

I will be representing the Opte.org Internet Mapping project at this years Notacon conference. We will have neat pictures, movies, 3d animations, t-shirts, and various other swag to give away. Ohh ya.. And Source code! We do hope to have the source code for the Opte project released sometime around then (maybe before, maybe at the conference). Hope to see you all there!
Thank $Deity for a tech conference that is NOT on the west coast somewhere! Money that would have gone to plane tickets, hotels, cars, conference passes, beer, etc. can now be better spent on conference passes, beer, hookers, etc.
On second thought a hooker from Cleveland might be a bad idea.
I do like the idea of being able to drive to the thing though. Thanks for not ignoring east coast and midwestern geeks, notacon!
If bad puns were like deli meat, this would be the wurst
This is the one being hosted by the guys behind Rubi-con, right? I've thought about going in the past, but was too busy and such. Might go this year, as it's a bit closer than Detroit.
:)
btw, how was last year's Rubi-con? I can't find any writeups or anything. Did the cops get called again? Were there feds? Inquiring minds want to know

***********************
We will not accept presentations or art pieces that include any of the following:
* Volatile, dangerous or otherwise hazardous chemicals
* Weapons
* Flames, fire or explosives
* Bodily fluids
* Obscenity or undue vulgarity
* Nudity
* Any illegal drug
* Anything else deemed illegal or unduly dangerous
Obviously, films and music are exempted from most of these descriptions. Film makers, though, are encouraged to avoid subjects involving nudity as members of the audience may be under the age of 18. Likewise, we will discourage pieces that are extraordinarily heavy or immobile such that housing the exhibit would put undue strain on the organizers.
However, pieces may deal with all but one of these subjects (the exception being obscenity) and artists are welcome to discuss or make comment on them through their art.

To each his own. As was stated by the noble AC, we're trying to attract a somewhat different crowd. Yes, CanSecWest is an excellent conference and I would suggest it to anyone who can afford it.
:)
By the looks at it, CanSecWest costs at a minimum CAN$1600 whereas this conference can be had for as low as US$50.
Too bad you posted as AC, but you probably expected this reply anyway
To plug a con is one thing, but to make rude comments against something you have not seen is another. It just shows your obvious lack of intelligence in the matter. Cansecwest is a good conference full of great speakers, however 1600$CAD (1,200 USA) is an extremely high price for most of us students of life. If you have a big corporation to sponsor your attendance to Cansecwest, go for it! However, I unfortunately do not have that luxury and neither do a lot of people currently working/struggling in the technology sector. As for the comment about art, well I enjoy the artistic side of technology. I find myself attracted to all forms of art from music to paintings. I believe that all good coders, hackers, radio enthusiasts, and the like are art oriented. I feel this way because technology is dependent on creativity. Without creativity and the "art" of life, you are stuck with something quite redundant and boring. Just my two cents.
That was a little rude, AC. :/
