U.S. Air Force Plans for War In Space

arhca writes "Wired has an article about the U.S. Air Force's plans to put military weapons in outer space. Plans include firing hypervelocity rods from space to targets on the ground, space-based lasers and large mirrors to reflect the beams at targets on the ground, and a space-based radio frequency energy weapon to destroy or disable foreign satellites. The Air Force's PDF can be found here."

Whaaa...? Where the hell did you get the logic that warhappy == enriching a few select people?

Also, please note that while we [the US] is currently in a decent relationship (or at least non-warring) with the majority of the other countries, this does not preclude other countries from developing superior military technology and hurling stones/whatever at *us* from space. As our military is there _to protect us_, I'm glad they're looking forward instead of doing nothing. Pro-active != Warmongering.

Finally, note that a broke wacko in the desert who finds mustard gas can as thoroughly use it to kill US citizens as stones hurled from space. I'd greatly prefer to be on the receiving end of neither.

"Now, instead of millions dying in wars, thousands die."

Myth. Many millions have died in the past decade or so due to the U.S. military. Most American citizens just don't know it. There is a LOT you do not know.

And to comment on the rest of your comment, it is all complete baloney. First off, stop jumping all over the anti-war protestors, you simply don't now squat, and in fact, most anti war protesters don't either, because if they did, they would be many times more angry. Well, somehow you seem to have a lot of "understanding", so why don't you tell us why millions die and how to stop this? Has it ever occured to you that there are certain groups of people that actually want these people to die? and that the U.S. supports fascist nations when it helps, but when it doesn't, out with the old in with the new. This is exactly what is happening with Iraq. The U.S. supported the Iraq dictatorship and during that time millions(or at least 100's of thousands) have died. Since then, Iraq was no longer friends with the U.S. so now what? This is a really simplified version of it. Don't spout your mythology and propaganda. Your generalizing a philosophy of pessimism based on twisted facts. How about reading some Noam Chomsky and get some real facts. Don't listen to me, and don't listen to the media. Get the facts and start thinking for yourself. War is not a must in human society.
