Subversion 1.0 Released
Phil John writes "Subversion 1.0 has finally been released. The people who maintain CVS have given us a viable replacement for our de-facto (and aged) versioning system. If you're new to Subversion its feature list looks like fixes for everything that is wrong in CVS, renaming, directory structure and metadata version tracking, file deletion, proper management of binary files and it's pretty portable to boot." According to the download page, binaries may take a few days to appear.
Unfortunately, I don't think I have the money to go back for my master's or even just to go take some more courses at a local community college just to qualify for a cheap copy of Visual Studio. I already have upwards of $20,000 of student loans to pay back and little hope of finding a programming job anywhere in northeast Indiana, now that I'm competing with both laid-off 10-year-experienced programmers and Indian consulting firms.
Subversion itself has been self-hosting with Subversion since 2001. Subversion 1.0 source is currently hosted on Subversion 0.37.
