Girls in the Gaming World

dkleinsc writes "The BBC is running an article about life as a female gaming squad. There's some discussion about the welcome or lack thereof women get in the gaming community, and arguments over whether it's a good idea to have separate women's matches."

It's not that they can't hack it, it's that they don't usually care to spend 8+ hours a day playing a video game that's nothing but twitch movements over and over.

Probably something about wanting to have some degree of a social life, eh? Not that we'd know anything about that here...

I know a grand total of 1 ( ONE ) female gamer. And she looks like she has been hit in the face by a vat of acid at 300km/h, has about the same weight as as the Eurasian tectonic plate, is as charming as Margaret Thatcher on a Sunday morning, about as reliable and trustworthy as an unnamed operating system which does NOT control 5% of the global market...

Well, I'm sorry to say but you've fallen for propaganda.

Men on the net are men, women on the net are 40-year old hairy men who'd like to be women and both the men and women on the net who say they're under 18 are actually FBI agents.

Baseball players have to be in good physical condition, video game players do not. It takes years of training to learn to hit a 100mph fast ball or a curveball that drops quickly in front of you.

People who play video games do not need any physical conditioning nor do they need any real skills except reflex to hit a button up and down. That is not a skill.

So basically you are saying there should be competitive grocery shopping? Yeah your stupid.

No video game can teach you how to fire a rifle. It may simulate situations and evaluate how you might work them out but they do not teach or train a soldier how to use the weapons or how to survive. Most military training is out in the field, computer simulators are still too expensive and still a poor substitute for the real thing.

Why does anyone think this is a good thing? Video games suck up so much of your time and leave you with virtually nothing--a slightly faster reflex is not as desirable as the physical benefits from playing an athletic sport or the mental benefits from playing a mathematical table game like chess, backgammon, or poker. Gender equality isn't a good thing when it applies to something that's harmful. Comparatively, an increase in male prostitution is not a good thing just as an increase in female gang membership is also not a good thing. Mod as troll or flamebait if you wish, but I'd like to know why Slashdoters (and Slashdotrises) think this is positive.
