Powered Exoskeleton Legs

dyoo78 writes "Berkeley Engineers have come up with an ingenious mechanism that almost mimics, well, Borg technology. Developed by UC Berkeley's Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory, the Berkeley Lower Extremity Exoskeleton (BLEEX) consists of mechanical metal leg braces that are connected rigidly to the user at the feet, and, in order to prevent abrasion, more compliantly elsewhere. The device includes a power unit and a backpack-like frame used to carry a large load. This development bring to the forefront the ability to not only carry large loads in wartime efforts, but may possibly help people with limited muscle ability to walk optimally."

It was humor, and you've removed your funny bone (and sense of rationality as well, apparently) to fit more activism. Not only that, you presume to judge me as an incompassionate war-monger based on an off-the-cuff (and VERY funny) comment I put together, parodying the stereotype of Berkeley-area activists. Who's close-minded now?

All things in moderation. I pick my battles, after learning at about age 17 that there is no way one person can fight all of the world's injustice without going insane and effecting no change whatsoever. Learn about scope of influence and scope of control, and work to improve things that you have control or can realistically gain influence over. Just some friendly advice.

I don't know why I need to justify myself to you, mostly because I hope I can make you feel like an ass for jumping on me.

My wife and I are both independent voters, so have no political party affiliation. We take in abandoned birds as pets and give them a happy home until they die. I ride public transportation (low-emission CNG bus) to work. I support a much more balanced ecological mindset for our society, as opposed (and theoretically in harmony with) to our very ugly industrial state of mind. I contribute to the EFF.

I may now be a full-blown PETA-supporting Green member, as you apparently expect anyone who isn't you to be, but I'm quite certain I'm doing my best by myself, my family, the planet and the creator. So get off my case... all that crap about how much compassion I lack and how selfish I am is the kind of snap-judgement crap that 22 year olds say when they think they know everything. Life isn't that easy, and I refuse to be pigeonholed, stereotyped, or dismissed without the opportunity to make my values known.
