FF7 Advent Children Movie Trailers, Rumors

Wingchild writes "I noticed that the trailers for the new Final Fantasy 7 movie are online at Square-Enix (Squeenix?)'s website, an event as yet unmentioned on Slashdot. Available elsewhere are trailer screenshots and plotline theory. The release will be straight to DVD (Square might still be smarting after the unspectacular performance of The Spirits Within), but it'll still be neat to see what Squeenix is capable of on the ever-moving CG front." S!: The AdventChildren.net fansite also has details of an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, pointing out "the movie [or a new trailer] will be shown in some form at this year's E3", and noting that the past rumor that "the movie will be playable on the PS2 only" has not yet been quashed, although it hasn't been confirmed either.

I'm not well versed in Sony and Sqaure's relationship... but it would seem that to limit the movie to PS2 would severely limit audience from which Square could draw on for sales (unless of course Sony was paying out the ying-yang for sole rights). Of course, it's only a rumor, but one I hope for the sake of those who don't have a PS2, as well for Square, is proven false.

      every source i've seen about this game says its in DVD Format, DVD Format isn't exclusive to the PS2.

      as a matter of fact if i can't play this on my DVD Player which is hooked up to my 53" Flatscreen (read: My Dads 53" Flatscreen) i will be pissed and will Boycott any future Movie attempt by Square.

      i may have a PS2, but that doesn't mean i want to move it everytime i want to watch this movie on the Bigscreen

      I don't know about that... think of all the marketing and such that took place when the original Final Fantasy VII sold out. There were a lot of PlayStations that were sold back then just because of that one game. And that's not to mention all the other Final Fantasy games exclusive to Sony consoles that have come afterwards.

      With the fan base for the game firmly entrenched in Sony hardware, I really don't see why exclusivity would be a major issue. Wouldn't the vast majority of people who are interested in Advent Children have a PS2 anyway?

    You forgot to mention that FF7 is the one Final Fantasy that should never, ever get a sequel. It completely ruins the already weak ending of the game.

    ...is the even cooler trailer from FFX-2 International + Last Mission. Just to warn you now: you're going to need an up-to-date DivX codec to be able to play it.
