FF7 Advent Children Movie Trailers, Rumors

Wingchild writes "I noticed that the trailers for the new Final Fantasy 7 movie are online at Square-Enix (Squeenix?)'s website, an event as yet unmentioned on Slashdot. Available elsewhere are trailer screenshots and plotline theory. The release will be straight to DVD (Square might still be smarting after the unspectacular performance of The Spirits Within), but it'll still be neat to see what Squeenix is capable of on the ever-moving CG front." S!: The AdventChildren.net fansite also has details of an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, pointing out "the movie [or a new trailer] will be shown in some form at this year's E3", and noting that the past rumor that "the movie will be playable on the PS2 only" has not yet been quashed, although it hasn't been confirmed either.

Do you hear that? Its the sound of Squaresoft cashing in on one of their most profitable games ever.

Not that I don't blame them. I'm titilated at the prospect of entirely new content for that particular game's story, I wish instead that they'd gone ahead with the rumored PS2 remakes that where cancelled. At least I wish that had remade 7. With a better story.

    Or something.

But at the same time, so many fans have been clamoring for years for a sequel to be made (I'm not one of them; I wanted the remake ^_~). Square has been avoiding doing so for just as long... so you can't blame all of this on the company, really.

Look on the bright side-- with all the renewed focus on FF7, lots of shiny new collectables have been coming out. And DigiCube finally got off their ass and released a FF7 Piano Collections :D

I see this as an apology for "The Spirits Within." This is pretty much what everyone wanted when they first heard Square was making a feature movie. Instead, we got this weird sci-fi trip that only relates to Final Fantasy if you look at the philosophical roots.

So, finally they are making the 'REAL' final fantasy movie. Fancy swordfights, magic, etc.

I've watched one trailer so far, and it's really dark, and pretty much 'black and white.' I hope that's not what the movie ends up as.

They need to run the whole gamut. Bright colors, happiness, flying machines, forests, chocobos, maybe even a small section with that crazy gambling joint. They need to have a bunch of the characters from the game, (although hopefully only a came from that cat riding the pink marshmallow thing.)

Don't be afraid to make a movie out of the game...(instead of just a movie with the same name as the game.)

The funny thing is that every entry in the Final Fantasy franchise only relates to Final Fantasy if you look at the philosophical roots.

First of all, have you played the FFVII?

"I've watched one trailer so far, and it's really dark, and pretty much 'black and white.' I hope that's not what the movie ends up as."

You must have had watched a flawed video or you are colorblind, because from what I have seen it is not just black and white.

Since, at the end of VII, the world that was left was pretty grim and all, somehow I doubt there will be much happiness, flying machines, forests, or chocobos or even the crazy gambling joint (otherwise known as the Gold Saucer, if you played the game).

From what I have seen in the trailers, everything looks great and has the same feel as FFVII, I think FFVII:AC will be great.

I don't get the venom aimed at The Spirits Within..a lot of people say it doesn't fit in to the Final Fantasy canon (it does).

The movie, on its face is one of the best sci-fi movies to hit the screen in a long time. The amount of detail given to the world they created is insane.

As well, people complain that it's "not Final Fantasy"..well..it is..it just happens to be kind of our "Final Fantasy". It takes place in the US, of course. And it happens in the future, which fits for doing that.

Anyway, enough ranting on that :p

I'm definitely not a FF7 fanboy, but at least basing a film on the most popular FF episode makes *sense*, compared to wasting the brand name on a truly horrid piece of sci-fi drek that made Space Mutiny look like Star Wars.

Of course, pointing a camcorder at a pc playing Duke Nukem 3D would have made a better movie than FF: The Spirits Within...

Best Final Fantasy game, meet proper 3d rendered graphics. I'll take eight! I hope they don't decide to do something stupid, like drop a character (Cid and Nanaki/Red XIII come to mind), and/or some major chunk of the plot. I see that Vincent is included, which is cool. I guess that all I can do is wait and see what it's like when it's released...

That was very different, in my opinion. That was a point at which the undisputably best game company around released a completely ground-breaking game on THE next-generation system and simultaneously announced that they would no longer be deving for nintendo. This? Sure, they've got an installed base of 40 million households in the US alone, but that doesn't mean everyone only wants to watch the dvd on those systems (which everyone who owns one knows have shitty quality!).

I'm not saying it's impossible -- square has made some pretty dumb moves in the past. Only that this is not a market-moving release, and that consumers would hate it, not move with it.
