iPod Mini Worldwide Rollout Delayed
falcon5768 writes "Apparently those 4-gig, $249 little buggers are selling faster than anyone expected.... So fast that the original April rollout worldwide has been delayed till July to keep up with the demand in the states and to get enough in production to meet worldwide sales. Given that there where 100,000 pre-orders alone, does this mean that yet again Apple hit on a niche that no one else (including me) thought would sell. I have been hearing a lot of rumors that the biggest buyer of the iPod mini has in fact been those female tech geeks out there. So much for the idea a $249 4-gig iPod was a mistake." Rob Glaser of RealNetworks, though, claims that not opening the iPod (big or small) to other formats is a real mistake; he wants to see iPod support other proprietary formats (like, say, Real's).
if 10% of the population is gay, plus all the metrosexuals - that's a huge market for apple products.
Because you won't get modded down for saying "female geeks" instead of the more obvious and more correct term, "gay men."
What is it about Apple that they can generate such huge pre-orders of a gadget that costs $250 and *still* not make a profit?
Mostly likely it is closely related to Apple's faggy platform, i.e. iMac. Apple has a huge backdoor-bandit following. Not saying female geeks play butt-darts, but with choices of blueberry & lime for example, Apple seems to be closing in on not only the silent-farter market, but also the female market.
..... in another year or so, the EU will be punishing Apple for dominating the market with their capitalist American-made iPod product. Then they'll force Apple to ship the iPod with competing media players (i.e. Real Player), force them to open up the specs to competitors, and fine them half a billion euro to boot.
But, like I said, don't worry! It's all in the consumer's best interest!
I think we all knew that Apple *would* pull it off, the reason is apple has a cult following that will buy any stupid product they put out. Only Nixon could go to china, and only apple can sell electronics for 30% above market value.

Does Slashdot have an award for Arsehole of the week? It should have.

Cool? It's a hard drive in a box. Don't tell me you've bought all that marketing crap. It's yet another overpriced possession for sad freaks to get excited over. If you think it's sensual then you're almost certainly either a virgin or doing something wrong. You can get a Sony diskman which plays MP3/Atrac3Plus format disks for 45 UKP, which while it may not be as small has the advantage that it's cheap so you don't have to worry about dropping it or it getting damaged in the rain. Also, my unit can use recharagable batters which I can replace myself!

Yes, those simple minded woman, always getting excited by pretty colours! Bless their little hearts. I wonder if my dinner is ready yet?
What are you, a fucking arab?

Most woman aren't going to appreciate your small size, trust me.

You've got maybe 5, 10 years before you are driven insane by your own nonsense.
Apple's at it again. They pretend to have huge backorders (when really it's people in line more then once because orders were cancelled and re-done...or just exaggerated) and then they pretend the units are flying off the shelves when a) it's their own incompetence at manufacturing the units, or b) the supply and manufacturing lines are purposely held back to create a short supply.
Of course, I haven't even touched on the tactic of announcing a product as finished while it's still vaporware, and then letting people order and wait for months while not giving any status.
