    The article starts out: "Apple announced today..."

    But no link to Apple's press release... and Apple's site doesn't have anything on it.

    Next year, I'm sleeping through 4/1.

    At this point, you might as well call the company orange... these april fools jokes are funny when they are reasonably real... that's what had me going 3 years ago on slashdot... but this is just stupid... Who's with me?

    I agree. This is just annoying. Slashdot should just make a funny index page that clicks through to the real site. Either that or not even bother. Again, this is just annoying.

    I hate april fool's day for this reason. People jokingly announce really cool things that have no chance in hell of ever coming out.

    just a squeezed picture of a iMac desktop monitor, with a button from powerMac and a cam from some other device. the stupid point is that it shows an interface similar to Mac OS, for the size of the screen of this article, you cant read the menu!

    Imagine this scenario:

    * People start using Gmail. Love it. Use it all the time.
    * Google goes public.
    * Microsoft buys 4.99% of Google then AOL.
    * AOL (now MS) exercises right to buy 2 mil. shares of Google. MS all but owns Google.
    * Microsoft has at its fingertips billions of email messages now easily and quickly searchable.

    I know they have msn and hotmail already, but this would add to it in a big way. Not only that, what if the government pressured MS to grant it access to search everything with this new search engine? The DOJ let them off the monopoly hook -- they owe the government a favor. Scary thought.

    Got Gmail? No thanks.
