BlackAura on Dreamcast Emulation/Homebrew Scene

Wraggster writes "Over at DCEmu.co.uk, we have an interesting interview with the author of NxDoom, NxQuake (both excellent ports to the Sega Dreamcast) and also a Genesis/Megadrive emulator for the Dreamcast called Genesis Plus. Check out the interview with BlackAura."

I think you're mistaken, the DC only died in the retail channel. It's one of the best next gen consoles for longevity in the underground scene. There are loads of things you can do with it, from running netservers to porting different software to it.
Not to mention it did have a great library of official games. Over/under-hype, piracy and bad marketting killed it for consumers, but that doesn't change the fact that the usability, hardware and games were truly good.

Do you know what they played all night? - SNES games !

Nothing beats 8bit for pick up and playability.

As the other reply said, it's alive and well in the underground scene: modds, homebrew games, all sorts of stuff. But it's also not dead in the commercial scene. Dreamcast hardware is still used in arcade cabinets, as was mentioned a couple months back in the article about SNK dropping the aging NeoGeo hardware in their Arcade systems.

For those wanna pick up a Dreamcast (or an extra one) theres a neat sale going on at EBGames. Buy a used Dreamcast for $15 USD and get an extra controller. Doesn't sound like much at first, but after you read this report and take a look at all the free underground works out there...

Or for those who are lazy and have access to a good choice of Dreamcast games, about $30 more and you got yourself a cheap $~50 system, 2 controllers, and a (couple) game(s). Not bad if you're trying to stretch your money.

sad thing is, most ebgames have sent their dc's back to the warehouse for sale on the website, so it's $20 with only one controller.

though, i must say, i own 4 dreamcasts... one in active use and 3 are backups. never want to go through the great atari disaster of 1988 again. =]
