Atari Lynx Emulator Goes Open Source
Bill Kendrick writes "Handy, the Atari Lynx emulator, has been re-released as Open Source software. (So that libSDL port I've always wanted might become a reality!) Handy's official website has moved to SourceForge, and the source-code is in CVS!" There are some neat homebrew Atari Lynx titles, both demos and game prototypes, available, too.
Does this mean I can get that old 2800 out of the closet and do text based web browsing?
It's good to see emulators opening. The FSM (free software movement) and emu culture can both benefit from a little collaboration.
Emu culture gets the standard benefits of freesource, and the GNU system gets sorely needed games.
Of course, it failed because it went up against the Game Boy, and suffered from Game Gear syndrome (too big, too many batteries, too short a time length just for color and light). One thing I did like tho was its support for lefties....
I'm gonna have to check this out soon to replay some games.
Interesting enough, a PocketPC-port is available here, yet it is not mentioned on the official Handy site on SF.
My cats ate my karma. They also wrote this comment.
About time too. :)
Now I can port it my Zaurus.
Then I don't have to carry around the monster Lynx itself.
The Lynx has some of the best handheld games around because it has conversion of loads of Atari arcade games and Amiga games.
Good good.I'd certainly like to see a series 60 port!
So if anyone cleverer than me fancies a bash, i'd sure like to hear about it.

Back in the day, few things were better than playing Slimeworld with a few friends.
Oh man, that brings back some cool memories...
Don't think that a small group of dedicated individuals can't change the world. It's the only thing that ever has.
I remember playing it in a toy store when it first came out. I played the California games for 10 minutes and the system started to overheat. It sucked down batteris like coca cola. I wanted one really bad but my dad pointed out that I would have to blow the majority of my weekly allowance on batteries just to play it. Damn you Atari! Such a cool devise yet so flawed.
