This story at NewsForge takes a look at the Howard County (Maryland) Public Library's roll-out of over 200 public-use PCs, which used to run on Windows and now run on a custom Linux distribution called Lumix."

this article is full of unsubstantiated opinions. There is NO proof that the TCO of Linux is lower than Windows in this case. And, in the general case of Linux TCO, many in the industry are unsure, at best, that it is lower than Microsoft -- for the OS. For other products (IIS vs. Apache) the argument is more convincing. But for the OS, TCO is rougly equal, and in many cases, higher for Linux.
PAC isn't free you dickweed, you have to buy it as part of dynix.
It needs it's own server as well as the dynix one.
The *platforms* that can access the webserver on pac can be free e.g. Linux.
Oh wait...
It's funny that the Winlots generally use "some anonymous posters" of course without any actual references to prove that the OSS-community is evil, but seem to purposely forget the things Microsoft TOP MANAGEMENT (and NOT some random nameless posters who don't count anyway) said.
