Comcast Fires TechTV Staff

Bocaj writes "Looks like it's curtains for TechTV staff. A Leo Laporte article says that Comcast has let the entire staff go. 'Per the WARN Act (governing plant closings) all the employees of TechTV have been given 60 days notice. The San Francisco operation will be shuttered by July. 100 of the existing jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA.' No word on what will happen to all the shows or the channel."

How long before you miss a car payment! Sell your house and move across the land so you can get an entry-level job after wasting all this time getting fired! Why, you can't even list it on your resume! WHO THE FUCK WANTS AN EMPLOYEE WHO JUST GOT FIRED???!?!?!?!

CongratuFUCKINGLATIONS you just won the STARVING UNIVERSITY GRADUATE LOTTERY!! A fabulous and exciting prize package is yours! You get eight months of budget-scrimping shit! You have to sell everything you own! You get to FLUSH IT ALL DOWN THE RUINED CREDIT TOILET!!

We'll have the whole fuckin' thing sold eventually. And here you thought you were doing what you were supposed to do. Oh, well. Back to the want-ads.

Throw together a MythTV box and see what's comming up on a channle up to a week in advance.

Pick up a Tivo or alternative, and see what's comming as far as 2 weeks in advance.

I see the movies that interest me in the theatres, or wait for the DVD's. I could care less about PPV.

Having the material to put together a FreeVo or MythTV was what prompted my decision Not to go with Digital Cable when I moved to an appartment with a North view. (I had been a DirecTV subscriber till then.) TechTV was on Digital Cable, but I didn't see anything else I felt worth subscribing to in the lineup, and knew that the cable box would entail additional hardware to change channels should I get the MythTV box going. It would have, and I am generally happy with the MythTV box, so I missed the channel, but did survive.

With the MythTV box I can select the music that I want to listen to and don't have to listen to what some creative marvel thinks I should listen to. If I want to hear a song play again, guess what.

At the same time if it works for you, go with it.

Yes, loading images automatically sucks and also could mean that a person's box suddenly has a cached copy of illegal imagry on their computer. Try to defend having kiddy-porn on a box by saying 'outlook did it, not me, really!'.

PSA: A lot of people are unaware of the fact that if they don't suppress the loading of those images, the remote web server automagically marks them as a person to send more spam to.

    (I posted the above)

Ok, who's the wise guy this week who keeps modding me overrated -1 when I haven't been moderated up?

It's not irritating to me as I'm not obsessed with Karma. It's just puzzling me why a person would overrate something that hasn't been rated at all yet especially when I posted with the 'no karma bonus' box checked.
