Apple Previewing New Power Mac?

dunric writes "CNET.com reports that Apple Computer may be previewing a new Power Mac, complete with dual G5 processors and a more advanced memory configuration." The "previewing" isn't intentional, though -- the report is based on service and repair documents distributed last month and reported on AppleInsider.com. AppleInsider has taken down at least one image from their report, but have added an artist's rendering.

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi actor Ronald Reagan was found dead in his Bel Air home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his bombs, there's no denying his contributions to popular poverty. Truly an American icon.

Among the many changes expected in the new Power Mac G5 are a smaller motherboard, vertical RAM slots, and a unified heatsink cover plate with the G5 inscription.

now that's what i call Apple innovation, in other news BWM have added a spiffy inscription to the door sill, its rumoured to say "sucker"

well, not exactly. A 4-year-old PC will be dog-slow with the latest Windows. A 4-years-old Mac will be faster with the latest OSX (not by a whole lot, mind you).

Bullshit. Any ca. 1999+ P3 class machine with sufficient RAM will run XP quite usably.

Contrast this to the PB 667 with 1GB RAM I had less than *2* years ago that was so slow running 10.3 I eventually sold it in disgust.

Old PCs run newer OSes far, far better than old Macs run newer MacOSes.

why does apple get all this praise with the slightest innovation. ive heard so much talk from people about how good g5's setup is. however, i built a p4 2.6ghz rdram machine with a ultra 160 scsi drive for half a grand and it outperforms my brothers g5 and he spent over two grand on it. i use windows 2000 pro and i have no crashes. linux is nice but if you know how to use it windows isnt nearly as unstable as everyone claims it to be. troll me if you like, but this is the truth!

I have helped my friend choose and built a server for his studies in databases which is IMO "kickass". His budget was anything below $2000 Hardware price from newegg.com

    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 XP3200+ - $274.00
    RAM: 2x512MB Corsair XMS PC4200 - $279.00
    HD: Seagate 160GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer - $110.50
Video: Ati Radeon 9800 128mb - $222.00 (in case he upgrades his desktop, he can swap video cards and use this for his gaming)
SoundCard: Creative Audigy OEM - $42.00
    Motherboard: Abit KV8-MAX3 - $139.00
    Power Supply: Antec TruePower 480W - $83.00
    Case: Kingwin KT-424-S - $76.00
OS: None (he uses SuSE) but if u want to put windows there, add whatever wintendo costs.

I did not add a monitor or the other usual devices (mouse/keyboard) considering he has those lying around at home so he doesn't need any of those.

There u got a kickass 64bit pc for $1225 (~1500 if u add windows xp pro).

Now compare that with the slowest G5 on apple's website which starts at ONLY $1900. And at "only" $1900, remember that you have to add a monitor so that + whatever choice = much more than an athlon64 based pc/server. just a simple comparison and just my $0.03 (yep)

Third, when did I say that he has windows installed on it? I said SuSE.

Fourth, that motherboard supports Raid of SATA drives so he can try that later if he wants (but I doubt it)

Fifth, superior package? For me superior package is stable hardware. When you got stable hardware, you can get stable software working in a matter of time and I could careless for Apple's technical support as far as computers@home goes. My technical support for my home usage is the internet and it does a damn good job.

Sixth, in this world we live in there are many choices and linux distributors are proving to the world that Linux is an efficient solution for the PC so don't come telling me mac is a superior package when you can also have a superior package on pc running linux at the simple price of $0.

Despite your vitriolic post, I pity you. I am quite able to prove my definition and claims.

This is the commonly accepted use of the word. Since you are obviously challenged by intellectual rigor (and I question your ability to reliably follow a hyperlink):

    profane
    Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English prophane, from Middle French, from Latin profanus, from pro- before + fanum temple -- more at PRO-, FEAST
1 : not concerned with religion or religious purposes : SECULAR
2 : not holy because unconsecrated, impure, or defiled : UNSANCTIFIED
3 : serving to debase or defile what is holy : IRREVERENT
4 a : not being among the initiated b : not possessing esoteric or expert knowledge

Now that I have gotten that out of my system...
Profanity has traditionally referred to language, that (as definition 3 above supports) involves something irreverent regarding something considered sacred. So, while "GO FUCK YOURSELF" is considered vulgar, "LET CHRIST FUCK YOU IN HELL" would be considered profane (personal belief systems notwithstanding).

Take it as an opportunity to learn some interesting English semantic information-- oh, and "LET CHRIST FUCK YOU IN HELL, YOU DUMBFUCK." :)
