Constructing A Low-Power 2U Wireless Rack-Box
adelayde writes "Recently we decided to build ourselves a custom rack-mountable box that we could use as a web and DNS caching proxy and which would offer flexible wireless networking facilities and have an uniterruptible power supply. The result was a 2U rack-box with dual wireless networks built upon a low-power Via EPIA MiniITX motherboard. The box has two wireless networks built in with external antenna connectors, locking switches on the front to avoid tampering, a battery to give at least 20 mins of autonomous operation, a low wattage power supply and most importantly lots of blue LEDs :)"

Anybody with a minor background in electrical engineering could tell you that the above equipment isn't about to get along well together. I hope they don't kill themselves.
But I can't help but notice that the prices you've listed are way, WAY more than you would pay in the USA.
Is that the result of a socialist government, or perhaps of joining the EU? I'm not surprised the UK has never had any kind of technical lead when it's so expensive to buy basic materials for experimentation.
I count 3 posts modded 2 points or above that say "I could do the same with a notebook". You fucking morons. No one cares what you could do and if you took the time to even scan over the article you'd see they used to do that but didn't want to any more.
And I saw about 8 kajillion posts either saying the site is going to be slashdotted or it is slashdotted or posting a mirror. Look dummies, shut the fuck up (STFU). 1 mirror posting is OK but that is IT.
And a semi-literate simian who thinks "loose" is what he hopes to do to his virginity some day.
Of course there was the usual assortment of 'oh you could have done it in this case' morons.
To be fair, I saw 1 intelligent post.
