EFF Runs Patent-Busting Challenge
markclong writes "Every year numerous illegitimate patent applications make their way through the United States patent examination process without adequate review. The problem is particularly acute in the software and Internet fields where the history of prior inventions (often called "prior art") is widely distributed and poorly documented. As a result, we have seen patents asserted on such simple technologies as One-click online shopping (U.S. Patent No. 5,960,411.), Online shopping carts (U.S. Patent No. 5,715,314.), The hyperlink (U.S. Patent No. 4,873,662.). The EFF is hosting a patent busting project to fight the most egregious abuses of the patent system."

Yeah if anything's redundant it's this slashdot article. It's things like this that make me thankful for metamoderation. :o)
Don't try to measure this by your mind. Don't try to explain it by your words. When you let go of your body and mind and forget them completely, when you throw yourself into the Buddha's abode. When everything is done by the Buddha, when you follow the Buddha Mind without effort or anxiety - you break free from life's suffering and become the Buddha.
Yeah, that sure seems to be true today.

I browse at 0, but generally read the "below your current threshold" posts in reply to interesting topics--then add anyone who has been unfairly modded down to my Friends list, with a +5 bonus to them. (And when I hit the 200 friends limit the other day, I subscribed. I guess that says something about the "success" of moderation.)
Oh, and I almost always post anonymously, myself. It makes it more satisfying to get +5 posts when it takes five moderators and not just three.
Happy Birthday!
