SpaceShipOne Flight Not as Perfect as it Seemed

ArbiterOne writes "SpaceShipOne's flight wasn't as perfect as it seemed, according to Burt Rutan and New Scientist. Apparently, at one point in the descent, the pilot completely lost attitude control. According to him, "If that had happened earlier, I would never have made it and you all would be looking sad right now." Could this pose some problems for the X-Prize contender?"

    I know you are joking, because developing spacecraft is exactly rocket science, and since spaceship one is a rocket plane...

    That's rocket science too.

    Of course it could, bubblehead. Getting into space is HARD.

    Getting into space is also *DEADLY*. It can get you killed *REAL FAST*

    It's *NOT* some kind of stupid game, and certain people had better wake up to that fact real fast.

    One of the worst things the SpaceShip One crowd
    has done was to treat this as if this was some kind of grand adventure. It's not.

    it's something in which the slighest error or flaw
    can lead to disaster as they just found out.

    Quite frankly I think we're going to see more
    of these "Private Space Venture" flights either
    blow up durning the launch phase or breakup during the re-entry phase once they get started than you will from the goverment-run ones.

    Why you ask? Because the privately-run ones will
    try to do things on the cheap and the quick.

    And in this instance that will spell disaster.

    We, the people of the planet Earth, hold these truths to be self-evident:

    That we forbid the exploitation of space for the benefit of capital and the military;
    That wealth must not be wasted while billions starve;
    That the United States is a rogue nation controlled by a disloyal foreign minority posing as native citizens;
    That it is in the legitimate interest of the human race for the development of new technologies to be forbidden without the unanimous consent of those affected;
    That this new technology, affecting as it does the entire race and benefitting as it does only the militarist/capitalist cabal controlling the United States, is by definition forbidden;
    That we are therefore within our rights to wage war on the United States until such time as that nation shall submit with becoming humility to international governance, distribute its ill-gotten wealth among the poor of the Earth, and exterminate the criminal minority which controls it.

    This is nothing but as waste of time.

    We could be using that money for better things. Like government programs that promote the health and welfare of our country. What a waste. I sure hope John Kerry gets in office so I can help carry more of the tax burden instead of using my money to invest in silliness like this.

    Space ships.... what a silly thing to do with your money...
