Walking In A VR Future

neol'schmoe writes "There's a new solution to the age old problem of physical movement within a virtual world. Researchers in Japan have come up with tiles that move in concert with a user's pace and motion to allow free range of motion while literally walking in a virtual environment and never leaving a very small area in the real world."

This was the one part of the holodeck concept I never understood. Apparently, they explained how they managed to do it, but if they did, I either couldn't comprehend their fake physics, or it was so stupid I wrote it off as a new writer.

I always imagined them to be walking around in circles, so I guess this moving tile idea would solve that.
