Life After Doom

An anonymous reader writes "What's next for the maker of Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein? Chris Morris of CNN Money talks to id's CEO, who tells us the next id game won't be anything like the others. Rather than a re-hash of its sci-fi or WWII themes, CEO Todd Hollenshead says, 'I'd like to try something new.' [Hollenshead also notes that an as yet unidentified developer with 'a name that people recognize' has licensed the Doom 3 engine.]"

Ok, mod me down, but I for one do not welcome our Doom III bearing overlords. I won't be buying the game. I like the first person genre. The first Doom's were excellent in gameplay. This whole "horrow" and "evil" vibe is just too much. I looked at the cover and screenshots and was sickened. The first Dooms were too morbid IMO, but still fun in small doses. Mainly for the teamplay factor - which was a first in the day. Duke Nukem 3D was better.

I'd much rather play a friendly game of RTCW ET or MOHAA than fight zombies with chainsaws. MOHAA and ET are just fine without the gore and "evil" theme.

P.S. compare Quake 1 & 2 to Doom 3, I mean come on! The only diff is the name & technology, they could have called Doom3 a remake of Quake 1 not Doom and nobody would have spotted the difference, Doom3 is closer to Quake than it is to Doom, especially with monsters like Pinky thrown in there.

Five years later, there'll be an OSS carbon copy that'll spark an epic debate on Slashdot about just how involved users should be with their computers!
