How 8 Pixels Cost Microsoft Millions

NubKnacker writes "Economic Times, one of India's biggest business daily's is carrying a story about how a small colouring mistake forced Microsoft to recall 200,000 copies of Windows 95. This wouldn't be the first time that has happened to Microsoft. From the article, "Microsoft has also managed to upset women and entire countries. A Spanish-language version of Windows XP, destined for Latin American markets, asked users to select their gender between "not specified," "male" or "bitch," because of an unfortunate error in translation." Ouch!"

Of course, the regular Slashdot reader, never having had to put up with a woman, doesn't know this, but let me tell you: Microsoft was right here!

If you're ever translating to Spanish, don't base it on Mexican spanish. Never, ever call a spanish speaking person "Mexican", or call the language "Mexican".

Mexicans are the "niggers" of the latin american world. They use words commonly that are insults to others. Just like niggers say "bitch" and "ho".

Since America is so close to Mexico, that's where our Latin influence comes from, and thus can come off crude or insulting to the rest of the (non-nigger) Spanish speaking world.

I'll get modded down -10000 racist, but it's the truth.

Don't believe me? Sit with a couple Spaniards, Cubans, Peurto Ricans, whatever, listen to them talk, then say "Woah.. woah, slow down! I don't speak Mexican!". Watch them flip out.
