Overclockers Top 6GHz With A 3.6GHz-Rated P4

sH4RD writes "The 6GHz barrier has been broken by two guys, a little LN2 (liquid nitrogen for those not as chemistry inclined), and an Intel Pentium 4 (Prescott) 3.60GHz. Check out some icing and some proof of speed. Better yet take a look at how fast it calculates pi. Also be sure to check out the original announcement."

    The instruction cache is 12K micro-ops. Doesn't that equal 12 milli-ops?

heat capacitance is the ability of a substance to absorb heat. Liquid nitrogen which has a low heat capacitance tends to boil quickly and provide poor cooling because the liquid phase isn't really contacting the cooling surface the vapor phase is (which is signifigantly warmer). This is why you can stick your hand in it for short periods of time and come out unscathed. Liquid propane has a much higher heat capactiance which will absorb heat much better than ln2. If you want me to pull out my merck manual and look up the numbers for you i will. as for the "fun" liquid propane experiment, i've done it (for work) Like i said before bfd. Until someone can come up with a practical way of running at 6.0 ghz i'm just gonna say YAWN. And btw I think your mothers basement counts as an enclosed space!
