That's correct, this is just the demo, containing a modified (spoiler-free) version of the game's prologue. Still a hefty bit of text, though.

Newlife Anime is working on translating the full game.

What is it? I look at the website & don't see a description of what it really is or any screenshots - just a torrent of an EXE. There's some mention of a 'genre of game' - perhaps a little blurb on what this is might be useful...

Call me paranoid, but I'm not about to run random EXE files from people I don't know without even being given a simple explaination of what they're supposed to be.

This game is a Japanese "visual novel" game demo, i.e. a lot of minimally-animated pictures, some sound effects, and a lot of text. If you're an anime fan you might appreciate the art style.

You can see some screenshots at Type Moon's Fate page, as they're the original publisher.

Yes - it has adult content. Well done, you score 100% for observation.

Presumably you will now discount the game completely, and ignore the fact that the adult content represents a tiny fraction of an epic storyline, a feast of love, magic, and betrayal, steeped in mythology from around the world.

Funny how people can't see past the "anime porn" label where games which place sex within relationships and give it a meaningful place in the plot are concerned, yet have no qualms about playing the ones where screwing hookers is just a way of regaining health...

Just to clarify, the demo portion of the game has no adult content. The screenshots on Type Moon's page cover the full game.

Well, I don't know about that, but the article was very deceptive about this. Perhaps I'm labeling myself somehow by this comment, but the pictures at the main site are not *soft* porn. Far more graphic than I expected, I would feel uncomfortable installing in a home with a ten year old boy. Likewise, I *don't* own any of the Grand Theft Auto series for the same reason.

"Well done, you score 100% for observation."

My question is why did it take more than cursory research to discover that information? I think it was simple deceit to present it in this fashion. I'm not a prude and my son is already aware of sex (at least in an abstract way) because we talk openly in my home. However, I'm not sure depictions of degrading sex (which may "place sex within relationships") are really where I want to go at this time with products I bring home.

Thanks for your arrogant backlash at people who are trying to understand the type of content they are about to view though. It sure makes it a lot easier to defend the "people should police thier own families consumption of media" when people are deliberately misrepresenting the content. At least GTA *doesn't* do that.

Hmm. Their FAQ and their Projects pages both clearly state that these games are meant for an 18+ audience. I am not sure whether this constitutes "more than cursory research".

"I think it was simple deceit to present it in this fashion."

Actually, I think the poster's mistake was in assuming that this audience knew what the term "Visual Novel" means; in the Japanese gaming industry it represents a fairly distinct genre of games with text overlaid on static images, almost all of which are 18+ in nature.

Anyway, I've played the demo. There's no sexual content in it at all.

At least in the immediate case, the demo version of the game was released for free on the web by the original publisher to promote the game, as demos often are. Technically a translated version is a violation of the "do not reverse engineer" provisions in the README file (which, ironically, have been faithfully translated for the English README, heh heh), but it's probably unlikely that this will cause a major legal fuss.

The copyright issues surrounding a translation of a full commercial game are different, and often the solution is to only release a patch file with the new script so that users must first purchase the original game to play the translated version.
