Dell Teams Up With SUSE

An anonymous reader writes "Dell's Linux blog points to the news that Dell and SUSE have teamed up to start offering SUSE Enterprise Linux installed directly on Dell servers. Looks like Dell isn't just a Red Hat shop anymore."

Dude, wtf!? You're getting a dell!? Honestly i love most linux distro's and am a proponent of open source... but you know what I'm against? Vendors who sell crappy hardware and make proprietary parts to keep you coming back to them to fix it. And the idiots who buy them. Even pairing a linux distro or two with a dell isn't enough to coherse me into buying one. I've been building my own whiteboxes since i was 11. My very first is still up and running to this very day. Show me an 8 year old Dell that's running as solid as the day it was built and hasn't needed any replacement parts. Can you? Likely not, though i'm sure if you searched the ends of the earth you'd find one or two. Fact is though, it's still likely got crappy parts. I remember doing an interesting little test with a gateway i rented, a dell i rented, and a box i built myself. The test was a little unfair (they both had intel, mine had amd), so i honestly can't blame the two for sucking so badly in comparison, though they should have been able to atleast hold a candle to the whitebox... ranting on endlessly here... so i'll leave you with this simple fact... The only reason I will ever by a dell, e-machine, gateway, etc.(unless they change their hardware) will be for the monitor. There are only two Prefabs I've seen to be stable. NEC and IBM.
