"Linux comes on three CDs rather than one"...
Excuse me? Don't lump all distributions of linux into one sum. there are distributions that only take one CD, or a Floppy, or even a zip drive. There are also distributions that DO require two or three.. or even five CD's. But no two distributions are exactly the same. This SOB has clearly only used one distro.
Friendship? I'm sorry but you're sorely mistaken. I have a cat. I've had a couple cats over my lifetime. I really do feel as if they're the closest animal I can relate to, including humans, as of course, we're animals as well. People commonly misconcive a dog's sumbission as loyalty. Cats generally hang around with other cats for the food. just the same as if you have an outdoor cat that doesn't like you he'll likely run away. The act of a cat leaving you a mouse or bird or whatever is not because he or she wants to be 'friends' or express his or her friendship, rather that it's they're way of contributing to the food supply.
'Computer characters' shot man
November 4, 2004
A COURT has been told two men dressed as characters from a computer game shot a man dead in front of his family during a home invasion in Sydney.
Twenty-one-year-old Sophear Em is standing trial in the New South Wales Supreme Court charged with the shooting murder of Josef Logozzo at his Cecil Hills home on January 7, 2002.
He has also pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Logozzo, a wholesale fruit distributor at Flemington markets, and shooting his wife, Marianne.
Crown Prosecutor James Bennett SC, told the court Mr Em and another man invaded the Logozzos' home shortly after midnight, dressed as characters from the computer game Counter Strike.
During the invasion, Mr Logozzo was shot in the chest and his wife in the hand.
oh come on.. seeing as how the counter-strike characters are modeled after real people. IE SAS, GIGN, ETC. how can you say 'computer character' hello... retard.. also.. given the abundant lack of anything aside from circumstantial evidance. how can you say that they were dressed up specificly to resemble counter-strike models? they could have decided to dress up as a member of the SAS GIGN, or some terrorist faction that just happens to be featured in several games. that's just as stupid as if someone were to dress up in a trench coat and sunglasses and shoot someone. next thing you know the media will be like "holy shit the matrix is a bad influence." come on, these people are profoundly distrubed in the first place. I'm really sick of the media placing blame where it doesn't belong and causing more trouble than needed.
My lord it's been awhile since i did an ascii diagram... lets give it a shot shall we. not all cables are equal
xoxoxoxoxoxoxox - 80 pin with an unused cable between each used cable to reduce crosstalk
xxxxxxxxx - 40 pin.. no crosstalk reduction
xxxx
xxxxxx -- round cable with no crosstalk
xxxxxx reduction
xxxx
oooo
oxoxox - halfassed representation of
xoxoxo spaced round cables
oooo
round cables use the same idea only on a grid as opposed ot a streight line. presume 'x' in the above diagrames are used cables and 'o' is not
o x o x o
o o o o o
o x o x o
o o o o o
would be the most effective
x o x o x
o x o x o
x o x o x
o x o x o
is usually how it's done with round cables
how many of your flat cables are grounded? my round cables all have grouning strips on each end. Granted i do prefer flat, i find clients request round more and more. flat cables can be just as vunerable to crosstalk as round cables and 80 pin flats are no better at avoiding it than a good set of rounds. So suck my left nut you wanker yanker.
hmm IE 6.1 on XP HE SP 1a... alleged exploit example on netcraft doesn't work in IE. I generally use firefox anyway. *shrugs* must be some automagic fix eminating from my slackware boxen, or one of the many things i've done with this boxen.
Dude, wtf!? You're getting a dell!? Honestly i love most linux distro's and am a proponent of open source... but you know what I'm against? Vendors who sell crappy hardware and make proprietary parts to keep you coming back to them to fix it. And the idiots who buy them. Even pairing a linux distro or two with a dell isn't enough to coherse me into buying one. I've been building my own whiteboxes since i was 11. My very first is still up and running to this very day. Show me an 8 year old Dell that's running as solid as the day it was built and hasn't needed any replacement parts. Can you? Likely not, though i'm sure if you searched the ends of the earth you'd find one or two. Fact is though, it's still likely got crappy parts. I remember doing an interesting little test with a gateway i rented, a dell i rented, and a box i built myself. The test was a little unfair (they both had intel, mine had amd), so i honestly can't blame the two for sucking so badly in comparison, though they should have been able to atleast hold a candle to the whitebox... ranting on endlessly here... so i'll leave you with this simple fact... The only reason I will ever by a dell, e-machine, gateway, etc.(unless they change their hardware) will be for the monitor.
There are only two Prefabs I've seen to be stable. NEC and IBM.
Maybe I'm giving *nix users too much credit, but the bulk of *nix user's have to have atleast some semblance of a clue to use it. It's been my experiance that, like myself, most *nix users arn't complete idiots and wouldn't fall for something so obviously fake. Common sense is a security tool you know.
What a dumbass. Of course, all mac users are dumbasses. Oh I've got a mac. I don't need an anti-virus because there arn't any mac viruses out there.
no, thay make norton, sophos, and several others for the mac for absolutely no reason, it's not like i can rhyme off a short list of mac virii off the top of my head.. oh wait.. i can..
Dukakis
Wormcode
Independance Day
Blink
MerryXmas
Broka a mac
burningfuse
byebyeinit
cdef
conan the librarian
DOS sHELL
enchanted menus
hal
flypaper
init29
initm
init17
munch
netbunny
netdino
off hook
the list goes on and on. Seriously, you retards who think your OS of choice is so secure and immune to virii really need to get half a clue. Microsoft Windows is a big target because it's so widely used and holds such a large share of the market. Other operating systems are lesser targets because they're user bases are smaller. Just because your OS isn't dropping dead every 30 days anyway doesn't mean that you're not vunerable to virii. I'm a proponent of linux myself, simply because it's done right and can run for years at a time without bleeding memory like a chicken with it's head cut off and body strung up by it's toes. I prefer slackware, but as great as it is, no operating system is truely immune to all forms of malware. Malware is just much less prominent on some. Common sense would tell you this.
Neuter the stupid. Why? Because they breed like rabbits, meanwhile those with half a clue have one, maybe two kids at best. The idiots currently severly outnumber those with the intelligence to say.. use a pair of chopsticks without poking their own eye out, find themselves drowning in a sea of stupidity.

I don't think that anyone has yet mentioned that sometimes movies become next to vaporware. I've spent the last 4 years waiting for miramax to release shaolin soccer. Which was a giant sucess in asia. Well they were just going to subtitle it. so they did that, then wen't back and decided to dub it.. when they finished they decided they didn't like the dub, so they redubbed the entire damned movie again.. then they released it in new york, miami, and la.. i'm not near any of these places, nor was there any economicly viable means with which for me to aquire transportation to and from these places for this single event. I got tired of waiting and downloaded it. When miramax gets off their lazy braindead asses and puts it on DVD I'll buy it, presuming it isn't sold only in some remote location or by vendors i've never heard of. This goes back to the market finding ways to satisfy itself. It only makes sense though. If you can't supply something that is in demand, those demanding it will likely seek other methods through which to aquire what they seek. As for hackers, there's always been a massive moral differance between generations. the OG/grey-beards have an entirely different value-system. Just as each generation in a society does. 40 years ago hearing cursing on the radio wasn't common-place, and was looked upon not only with disgust, but so many found these taboo words appauling. now they're a part of every-day life. taboos change with time and culture, as do the value sets of each and every member of society. each generation has their own traits. I like to think of myself as an odd mix betweent he og and the newschool. I also like the golden rule, do unto others as you would have done unto you. well.. the one i go by is slightly different. I'm going to treat you the same way you treat me. For example, say i'm playing counter-strike on a sever with friendly fire turned on. If a teammate shoots me and i think it's intentional, i'm going to warm once, then when it happens again i'll spin around and take his/her head off without hesitation. Everyone that plays with me knows this all too well. but by the same token, if it's not obviously intentional, or i'm unsure, i'll just tell them to watch their fire.I've become a very unforgiving person, but at the same timei still give people a chance. Where-as an OG would likely be much kinder about it. this reflects the change in both temperment of individuals and society as a whole. Older people are generally much more forgiving. You have to wonder though.. with the mess of social 'strings' and a decaying moral foundation.. have we already doomed ourselves?
You've used tabbed browsing right? After doing so would you ever really want to go back to a browser that didn't support it and you had to open a new instance of a browser if you wanted to stray from one page but keep it up at the same time? (keep your page up and stray from it at the same time like a cheap little whore.. viagra for your browsing habits www.mozilla.org ) For instance you'll be replying to one/. article in one tab and still reading replies and other topics on another. Very useful, especially if your taskbar is already cluttered with other applications. Now apply the same principal to your desktop. Yes, it takes some getting used to, like when you first encountered a browser with tabbed browsing, but once you get used to it you won't trade it for the world. By the same token, using multiple monitors makes multi-tasking easier, everyone has their own way of using them, but when there's more real-estate for the things you're using it's easier to keep track of them. For instance if you're a network administrator, and keeping an eye on your users aswell as the network itself is part of your duty, it's most advantagous to have oh say, your user monitoring software (anything from radmin to terminal services and back) on one screen, network anylizers, sniffers, and the like on another, so that if say bill has been using a lot of bandwith lately which is severely slowing down your remote-bakups, you can keep an eye on say your backup while he stays late in his office and you can simultaneously check up on him and see that he's got 50 torrents running and watching like 20 porno flicks. yeah.. that's why your bandwith seems low. of course knowing this you could then implement qos to restrict his downloads to oh say 4kbps and let him know that he shouldn't be doing such things at work.
This would be a nice informative article.... IF i hadn't known two years ago that sony had plans to do this. Unless it get's pushed back or forward the release date will be in fall of 05. at which point I should be reciving one of the first 300 on the U.S. Waiting List. As usual, it'll likely hit Japan and Europe first. As for data redundancy, currently zero, though I expect developers will be changing that in the future, of course you could always go buy a blue ray DVD burner (MSRP roughly 400-500 or so when they hit the market) and I'm sure nero and the xcopy line of burning software will follow suit.
Size checking wouldn't matter to much, file sizes can be made to be reported incorrectly while maintaing content integrity or having a file with no thing it it take up 40 gigs. This can me used against the RIAA and MIAA in inducing false claims and hiding real pirated media. Use of this method CAN cause some interesting problems as well, especially if you don't keep track of real file sizes on a relatively small drive or storage device. I'd love the RIAA or MIAA to send me one of those letters, I'm poor, but you know what? I'd be happy to go into debt and get my money back a thousand fold persuing a case againt their outragous behavior. Between the RIAA targeting children downloading songs in the public domain, and old grandmothers who barely know how to check their e-mail, and the MIAA pulling this crap, there's just no room for privacy or peace of mind anymore. Even if you're doing nothing wrong. Both of those associations need to be put in their place, this kind of shit just isn't acceptable. Protecting artist's rights and material is one thing, but the masses shouldn't have to protect themselves from the protectors. I'm a published and accomplished artist myself, I'm not anywhere near the best mind you, but protecting one thing doesn't mean destroying another. This is out of line and really needs to be corrected.
Solid? Is that what you call E-Machines? IBM has made many good solid machines, there are many aptiva's and other IBM branded machines still running solid to this date. I have nothing against IBM, but I don't think it's fair to say all of their hardware is great either. the E-Machine line was particularly horrible, this is often a direct result of the ECS(elite-group) motherboards they choose to use and the often crappy PSU's lacking a zener diodes. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not bashing IBM. We owe a lot to IBM, and IBM still comes out with useful products and features now and then. Nor have they ever taken a stance in the market contrary enough to my beliefs for me to be appauled. But they're no Apache either. Once the top of the heap they now stand amongst a pile of mediocrasy, an effigy of normalicy.
Gary Kildall... It seems you know the name but not the history. You see Gary didn't commit suicide, not as we've come to know the term. He was killed in a brawl in 1994 at a biker bar. However his contribution to the computer science society was long before Gates even knew what a Micro Computer was. Gary developed CP/M for a little company called Digital Research in 1974. Before the IBM PC hit the market, before MS-DOS, hell 9 years before a 10 meg hard drive hit the market costing just a wee bit over $3000.00 (USD) Gary was writing an operating system, supporting it, and a growing user-base. IBM offered to buy this operating system, but Gary refused, just as Radioshack had refused to buy Bill's operating system while he was working for them. Now They shell out billions to Bill, whom graciously accepted IBM's offer of $50,000 at the time.

take a closer look at the symbol: it IS the symbol for pi, not an "n" so the equation is correct.
I don't need an anti-virus because there arn't any mac viruses out there. no, thay make norton, sophos, and several others for the mac for absolutely no reason, it's not like i can rhyme off a short list of mac virii off the top of my head.. oh wait.. i can.. Dukakis Wormcode Independance Day Blink MerryXmas Broka a mac burningfuse byebyeinit cdef conan the librarian DOS sHELL enchanted menus hal flypaper init29 initm init17 munch netbunny netdino off hook the list goes on and on.
(keep your page up and stray from it at the same time like a cheap little whore.. viagra for your browsing habits www.mozilla.org ) For instance you'll be replying to one /. article in one tab and still reading replies and other topics on another.
No, don't you get it? It swallows!
If you want a more detailed explination of Gary's profound influence on the industry click the link above.
