US Ready to put Weapons in Space

An anonymous reader writes "The Guardian reports "America has begun preparing its next military objective - space. Documents reveal that the US Air Force has for the first time adopted a doctrine to establish 'space superiority'." If this goes ahead, it will be in violation of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty which forbids the militarization of space."

How would you feel about that if the "other countries stuff" included satellites carrying nuclear weapons or biowarfare payloads?

Without that capability, what would you do if a hostile nation launched placed such weapons in orbit?

I'm sure the UN would take immediate action to destroy such vile weapons that are clearly in violation of international treaties.

Say, what? What do you mean the UN doesn't have such a capability?

OK, maybe they'll pass a strongly worded motion of condemnation. I'm sure that'll fix things right up. Look at how effective those have been in the past.

No, they probably can't get agreement for one of those either. Maybe they'll just talk about doing something and hope that the problem will go away before the end of the debate.

Here's the problem. We signed those treaties with a foreign power that no longer exists.

Plus, the USSR has violated most of those treaties anyway, nullifying them.

Yes, we rule by force, because force is the only thing communists and terrorists understand. Just like you train a dog with snacks and a choke chain, we govern those around us with subsidies and the military.

A long time ago the brightest minds got together and asked a question: How do we secure America? The answer was obvious: Be stronger than everyone else, pose a threat to everyone else, and eliminate any threats to us through diplomacy and military action.
