Ekush: A CherryOS For the Windows World?
GvG writes "Yesterday, Ekush version 0.10 was released (binary only, no source). Ekush is a relatively new attempt at cloning Microsoft Windows. The ReactOS project has the goal of creating a GPLed OS that is compatible with Microsoft Windows applications and drivers.
The release of Ekush caused some uproar in the ReactOS community, since it soon became apparent that Ekush was not much more than a repackaged version of ReactOS. Doing a simple string search for ReactOS on the Ekush binaries showed a number of hits. (Read on for more.)
GvG continues "Shortly after this was reported on the ReactOS mailing list, the Ekush website went down "for maintenance". Today they are back with a slightly altered set of binaries, which no longer contain the ASCII string "ReactOS". However, they forgot to search for Unicode strings... Ekush is not only violating the rights of ReactOS by deriving a product without releasing the modified source, they also derive code of (and are violating the rights of) Wine, FreeType and QEmu."
Larry Snyder adds "Additionally, at the time of this writing, their binary floppy diskette driver appears to be a near exact copy of the Windows 2k pro fdc.sys driver, with the copyright string and header changed."

And why is it bad to violate GPL copyright but okay to violate the copyrights of music artists?
Because Slashdotters are people and people are fickel. If what they do is to their benefit then they will support it. If something happends that is not to their benefit then they are against it. Lets put this in an other area say politics.
Republicans are for the Death Penality and Opposed to Abortions. These two confelct on the ideals of Value of any human life. But most republicans are considered to be Buisness Owners (Small, Medium, Large) or live in rural cominites. Now the Death Penality is to their advantage by getting rid of some of the people who don't fit into societies rules, and these are the people who made there lives by following societies rules (the written and unwritten ones), and someone who gets the death penality in a less populated area could have more affect in curving asocial behavior becaue in smaller comunities more % of the people would know the criminal. But Abortion they don't have much to gain on so they will opose it because they feel that it is wrong.
The Democrats Opose the Death Penality and are Pro-abortion. Democrates usually live in more urban areas and are usually Lower Middle - Upper Middle class. Now the death penality in these areas have little affect in urbanareas because the Ciminal is only known by a smaller % of the population and there are still pleanty of criminals in the area to take his spot. So the death penilty has no advantage to this group of people so they say the Death Penality is wrong because it is just killing a human and all human life is valuable. But for abortion in these areas there is a lot competition for resources and jobs in these urban areas and most familes need a double income to survive well in these areas, a singal mother in this environment will have a hard time making ends meat. Also the upper Middle class where a woman is climbing the sucess ladder and she has a child she will need to set aside some time to take care of the child stopping her from her ambitions. So for these people abortion is an issue that they want to support because it supports them.
If something is so important that you feel the need to post it on the internet... It probably isn't that important.
