Sony Officially Warns of Viewtiful Joe 2 Glitch
jZnat writes "Gamespot reports that Sony has made an official announcement warning gamers that the Holiday 2004 Demo disk, which includes the Viewtiful Joe 2 demo, will erase all memory cards in the system at that time. This was originally publicized by Playstation Underground, and now Sony has bit the bullet and confirmed it." Update: 11/27 22:38 GMT by T : Curt Feldman of Gamespot pointed out that his site's name had been garbled as "Gamepost"; no longer.
You can't save your status while playing a demo. So, why would a Demo Disc even affect the Memory Card? I wonder if this is a glitch or a disgruntled employee... this isn't made at EA, is it?
Apparently a lot of people have been getting multiple demo disks that do not have Viewtiful Joe 2 on them, but instead have Area 51, Prince of Persia 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3 demos replacing some of original demos.
Luckily i got my disk the day after i got my email so i took out my memory cards.
Hm, seems sony has been hiring the EA rejects.
there's NO excuse for not putting a recall on this. there's not much you can do about the people who get the magazine via mail (other than warn them with a nice letter, or offer a replacement), but they could at least pull the known bad copies off the shelves of bookstores and whatnot before any further damage is done. because, who doesn't leave their memory card in the system when they're not playing it?
And now for their next trick, they will make the battery life of the PSP actually go beyond 4 hours!
Simply retarded
Slashdot? Nintentrolls? That's like saying the media is biased to the left.
This is an important story for the slashdot world. People here love video games, and they spend a LOT of time on them. A bug like this ruins much more than one game, it can ruin every game you play. Even people who could be described as "Nintentrolls" (I'm proud to be one of them) know that demo discs are not going to be tested to the same extent as an actual game.
So make sure people know, and save them grief. I say "Thank you Slashdot for news we can use!"
I'll be here all week, folks!

A friend came over to show me Burnout 3, but we couldn't get my PS2 online. I realized that I had left it on overnight, and left it on the hardware screen that allows you to pick the memory cards. I assumed that my 3 year-old son had probably button-mashed the thing. When I checked, everything on the card -- 3 years of saved games -- was gone. I was sooo pissed at my kid. I didn't punish him, as he's not old enough to really know what losing 3 years of play-time means. But he probably wondered why I was sooo curt and grumpy all day. And then the next day I got the card in my mail, realized that I had played that demo disk the night before, and felt like a jerk for blaming my boy.
Awww shit. I just realized, I lost the saved games for Baldur's Gate. I was stuck on that stupid stone-jumping area for WEEKS. I suck at platformers. I will never be able to get past that again. Damn!
My 6 year-old daughter and I had been playing Gauntlet together since she was 4. We were on the 2nd-to-last world. Damn damn!
You know what? I don't care what demos are on that disk. I'm going to go crack it in half. #(&$@#%!!!!
