"The rating system is voluntary, so companies do not have to submit a game for rating before selling it."
Except the console manufacturers won't allow unrated or AO games on their systems, and the retailers will refuse to sell an AO or unrated game. So it is pretty effective censorship.
Yet they'll sell unrated versions of the newest torture porn DVD to kids, without a damn problem.
Nice story, but it doesn't give any good reason why we should stop these people.
I mean if yer stupid enough to stab yourself in the leg when you are bored, or let your buddy stab you in the chest, I really don't think you should be breeding.
I welcome any law that would prevent a child from buying a violent game. It's not censorship, as anybody who has first ammendment protection can buy the game. I can even buy the game for my child if I think it's okay. The government is not saying what's okay and what's not; that's still up to me.
You fail. By having a law stating that a child cannot buy a game, the Government is the one saying what's okay and what's not. Not you. The government.
If you don't want your son playing violent games, then you tell him that. There's nothing stopping you from telling your child no. It's a good word to have. Why does it seem to have been removed from the language of parents in the short span between the generation of my parents, and the one immediately after it?
Go check out his wikipedia link, take stock of all the personal attacks and propaganda he's thrown out, and basically make him look like the rabid dog he is...
...he just took the 'silence' as 'hey, I'm right!'
He ignores all arguments, instead throwing up his own strawmen to attack in order to claim victory, or viciously throwing around baseless accusations and namecalling.
He's not talking about Lara Croft's physical character design. At least, I didn't interpret it that way. I interpretted it as the character's personality. Granted, I haven't played anything since the second one (and the demo for the new Legends), but that's just what I took away from his comment.
Someone slap me for replying to an AC, but that's the point.
It's not like this "hot" chinese girl is actually in the room with you. Interactions like this are all typed words on the screen. People have been doing it on MU*'s for years (and just not charging for it)
But since it's all text, you really can't do anything if they don't have a decent grasp on the English language. It'd be like getting phone sex from someone who speaks another language; yeah, they sound hot, but for all you know they are describing their dinner last night.
"Anyone else see it as a good thing that the kids can't get these games without parental permission?"
Nope.
Because the laws keeping GTA:San Andreas from the hands of children are one stepped removed from the laws keeping GTA:San Andreas out of the hands of adults, simply because the politicians disapprove of them.
Every single law that they try to pass about keeping games 'away' from kids isn't about the kids. It's about the fact that the religious right (or is it left? All the same lately) disapproves of such things being bought and sold, and this is the way they can censure it.
"Therefore its okay to steal the GT500 from your favorite Ford dealership."
Old news, probably, but just gotta point this out... it's not stealing. Stealing is depriving the original owner of their property. Downloading Adobe off eDonkey is akin to going over to your favorite Ford dealership, pulling out the Wizard (It's not a FUTURE PROBE!) and making an exact duplicate.
S3... I've heard that before... and it didn't bode well....
Oh yeah! The Solid Snake System! That was a great.... oh shit.
Yes, it's a Star Trek themed game, but it's been going since 95. Hell, I just hit my decade+1 mark on there last May.
Was that actually going to be for all state workers, or just state workers (except the politicians)? I could never find a straight answer.
I thought that bit was from Varsity Blues...

It's been established elsewhere that the royalty fee for a cover song is something like 9 cents for a 5 minute song.
Nonono...
RIAA-reps = "Let's get the maximum cash for each track," Microsoft-reps = "Ok. Let's triple it so we get our beefy cut too!"
Fixed for you!
The shuttle was named Enterprise because of a massive campaign by Star Trek fans to have it named such.
Of course, Hollywood probably takes that into account and keeps the first 20 minutes at least someone interesting, to keep people in those seats.
I mean, how many movies have you seen that started out okay, and then just blew for the last half?
You do this thing we want you to do, or we do this to you.
This being the discontinuation of iTunes for France.
You fail.

Only suggestion I can make.

I know the name, but for the life of me I can't put a face to it.

Loved the looks I got at work the first day it went off. :)
I guess I am on drugs. It was Mandy Moore in the first one.
Nope.

What movie was this? I don't recall anything with Tom Hanks playing D&D. Just those shitty chick flicks.
Well, now at least I don't have to actually play through that game....
"The two companies will continue to work together as partners in making Star Wars Galaxies the ultimate online Star Wars experience."
It's pretty easy to be the "ultimate online Star Wars experience" when you're the only game in town...
Well, somebody's gonna have to count all that money.

God. I watch too many kids shows...
