GIMP 2.2 Splash Screen Contest Revisited
As reported here earlier, the GIMP team asked artists to submit their artwork to be used as the official splash screen for GIMP 2.2. The reaction was overwhelming. More than 666 splash screens have been submitted. You can look at the submissions in
the gallery or download the movies, grab some popcorn and enjoy...
Once you've seen all splashes, you may want to help the judges to pick the best splash by voting for your favorites.
That reference to the number of the beast. Well put.

So, how 'bout that Colorado human services software?
Bah. >:(

By linking the contest on the front page the editor of /. effective sabotages(slashdotted) the contest today. So you might have your "no splash screen" after all.
If you reach the site after all just vote for something inappropiate, and it will be disabled by default in the next version.
(my gimp 1.x takes 40 seconds to load, so a screen displaying it is doing something is effective)
He's one of the "/. Editors", a mysterious group of shadowy individuals who rarely show their faces.
Their ringleader is the nefarious Rob Malda, known under the aliases of "CmdrTaco", "Taco", "CT", or occasionally "that gai who cant speel too saev hi's liff".
His right-hand-man is Jeff Bates, widely known under the pseudonym "Hemos". His main interest appears to center around genetic advances; it is suspected he is planning a terrorist attack utilising biological agents.
Several other individuals have been identified as members of this ring. In addition, there are a number who appear to have been exiled over the years, apparently after betraying the trust of the leaders. Among them are "JonKatz" (also known as "Boring Blowhard who Hasn't Learned that the Letter l is Not an Acceptable Replacement for the Number 1 and Vice-Versa"), "Sengan", who has been associated with attacks in Iraq, and "Emmett", but no one is really sure of what he had achieved within the group. No official acknowledgement of their status has been released by the ringleaders.
And yet, that's typically what happens to Slashdot comments: a positive moderation makes it more visible, where it gets more positive moderation.

I'm still trying to figure out what people mean by 'social skills' here.
Whoever modded this 'informative' obviously didn't get the joke...
The reference may be relatively new, but the joke is already old.

Hello moderators.
If you plan to mod a post redundant, please look at the posting TIME and not the relative position on the page. The threaded view is not chronological. The parent on this post was posted at 8:02, two minutes after the article went live. Yes there are many references "above" this post stating the same but they were posted AFTER this post and part of a thread that was started earlier. Of course a metamod will not catch this poor moderation either as a metamodder is not going to view an entire story in flat mode to verify this.
I can't believe the number of people biting on that 666 troll. It's just a number, guys. No more exciting than any other.

My guess is you where modded "troll" by some geek who thinks he is an artist! But it's really true. And, funny in a way. Sort of like people who think they can write, working on that novel in their spare time...
