Bringing Down A Copycat Site
Nigel Cross wrote in with an interesting story from the world of software fraud. Cross writes "I found a copycat site fraudulently selling my own software and kept a record of the steps it took to bring him down."

check the validity of this guy's claims? He's getting free advertising from Slashdot now, and it'd be funny as hell if this Nigel Cross character was full of shit (like slashdot itself).
with 100% success! This has bullshit written all over it. I'd bet Xequte's "Mailling List" software is just spamware and now it's getting free advertisement from slashdot.
Thats sort of what I was saying... it's hard to feel sorry for a guy that tailors to this kind of market. I'm sure this MailingList King software could be used for real legit mailing lists, but the fact that it was listed on a site that sold spam lists and other spam software and has some spam features, leads me to believe this is mainly intended for small time spammers.
I've been asked to do some contracting for a ticket broker that used one of these programs along with a program to find email addresses from different searches on google. There are literarly hundreds of pieces of software that do this exact thing with exactly one thing in mind... spamming.
MailListKing
.. boo ho hoo .. somebody stole your spamsoftware and you come crying..
E-Campaign
EaZy Bulkmail
MSoft Email List (100, 500 and 1000K or above emails)
Sorry, this sounds like the names of spam software
(remind me, do we hate spammers today or not?)
Yeah, but how can you defend a guy that got burned by the same type of people that he caters his software for? He knew what he was getting himself into.
I said the software had legitimate uses, but I also said I don't feel bad because thats not what he gets most his money from. I don't this the P2P apps actually cause damage to the infrastructure of the web like spam does. P2P apps may have perceived damages to a few large corporations, but they do not affect every single used of the internet like spam.
This is like feeling sorry for a hitman because another hitman is charging a lower price and taking credit for the other hitman's kills.
Idiot, did you even read the article. The guy was from Pakistan.
And speaking of "curruption", all one has to do is spark a rumour about oil being found in Pakistan. Before we know it US would have invaded Pak and the ISP would have been shutdown. Why use a small policeman when the President is available sale?
WHEN 9/11 HAPPENED, SLASHDOT HAD ABOUT HUNDRED STORIES ABOUT IT. NOW THAT TSUNAMI KILLED 20 TIMES MORE PEOPLE THAN 9/11, THERE IS ONLY ONE STORY ABOUT IT!!!!
FOR THE FUCKS SAKE, WHY THE HELL THE REST OF THE WORLD SHOULD CARE ABOUT USA'S PROPLEMS LIKE 9/11, WHEN THEY GIVE SHIT ABOUT GLOBAL DISASTERS???????
the fun part is many of his "products" are spammersoft.
I really hope someone is stealing his software and selling it. in fact anyone have a link to a keygen for his apps?
scumbags that feed spammers are worse than the spammers.
Mailing lists are widely used by open source projects, like GNOME and KDE. Apparently almost nobody at Slashdot has ever heard of mailing lists. This just proofs Slashdot has become an anti-Linux site.
Hope your worthless slashdot story submission gets you some new customers you fucking moron. Next time just buy an advertisement if you want page hits and quit clogging the story queue with your non-news shit.
