Make Something Unreal Winners Announced
The Make Something Unreal Finalists have been whittled down to the last and the Contest Winners have been announced. The grand prize (A full Unreal engine license and $50,000) for a mod goes to Red Orchestra, Russians vs. Germans in The Great Patriotic War. First place for an UT movie goes to Journey, and is well worth the download time.
SS German Elite Wins every time...

Another WW2 game enters the retail market. Glad something innovative won MSU...
Why would they need an Unreal license? Didn't they already make the movie? (remembers Unreal engine license == legal mod) ... Oh... well, yeah, that's right. Nevermind, carry on.

As is to be expected, some of the bigger files are downloading slowly, I'm currently downloading the 210mb of bot (2nd place movie) goodness at about 15kb/s.
Any torrents (or at least major mirrors) going around for the bigger files?
So, the grand prize isn't $1,000,000? Do they call it the $1,000,000 contest because that's what the license is worth? If that's the case, it's a serious scam, in my book. I understand the value of a license, but I know most people thought the prize was actually the money... not just $50,000, but the whole million.
I thought the "UnWheel" mod, announced on the finalists list for the competition, was quite innovative, if very unpolished. It used the Unreal game physics to do a complete makeover with vehicles, which it did quite successfully (except the computer AI is non-existant at the moment.)
It reminded me of the joys of playing "Hard Drivin'" for the first time. Trying to drive the slow moving School Bus up the loop, only to get halfway and watch it fall back on itself from a 3rd person perspective was the best part.
READY.

well, now they have a free license to build a commecial game, which means they need to come up with $350,000 less initial investment to get a small company started. sounds like a good deal to me :)
tasty electronic music vittles
Just playing the maps that were made for the contest, I'm already impressed. Playing Deathmatch on an abandoned farm or a museum is awesome!
You see that brine there? That's my brine.
Some of the most innovative gameplay I've seen in an FPS. Needs a little more polish, but I hope the devs will stick with it. I quit due to WoW but I'm gonna get back into it now that I've got a faster box.
The total prize pool is $1,000,000, divided across the four phases and... erm... I can't be bothered counting the categories. The license isn't included in the prize total (the $$$ came from nvidia, the license came from epic).

UT2k4 is a fractioned community... Too many game types... Even the 4 team TDM/CTF/ONS didn't win anyone back... UT2k4 was killed off my the lack of support (Epic AND Atari), rife cheating (and no fixes after Wormbo threw in the towel), and constant in-fighting about brightskins and weapon nerfing and other petty stuff... UT is *so* dead... Now MSU is finished, even the modders will be off...
