Midway to Create Adult Swim Titles
Midway Games will be coordinating with Cartoon Network to create titles based on the Adult Swim block of shows, Voodoo Extreme reports. The shows up for conversion include Harvey Birdman, The Brak Show, and Sealab 2021. From the article: "ADULT SWIM is a phenomenon with young adult viewers who identify with the edgy, irreverent tone of the shows and the block...Clearly, lots of ADULT SWIM fans are avid gamers, and we look forward to working with Midway to make games the fans will love."
One can't even imagine what manner of gameplay these shows will inspire. Half the time they don't make any sense yet are hilarious. I'm looking forward to losing my mind trying to figure these games out.
.. is the Aqua Teen Hunger Force game? I want to be a moon master damnit.
So they're going to create games based on a show that was canceled over a year ago? And will they have old Mom or new Mom for the voice?
I loved the Brak Show. It would be nice to think that a video game company expressing interest in it might help to bring it back, but I'm not holding my breath. Most likely, they have some idea that will incorporate characters from a bunch of the different shows.
So in the Sealab game do you lose if it doesn't blow up at the end?
I've hit Karma 50 and gotten a Score:5, Troll... I win!
The characters of these shows star in a platform game, each with their own "cool" items and abilities.
what possible game you could make from the brak show.
Sealab, OTOH, could make a great old school adventure game.
Aqua Teen should be an extremly bloody fps in which you quest to become MOONMASTER!!!!
but who are we kidding? All of these games will probably suck.
But video games are. They may borrow the characters, but I doubt they will feature much more than amusing quips - witness "Simpsons: Hit and Run."
Oh please oh please finally make Clam Digger.
swanker than you
Ok, I read the blurb on Slashdot and I was more than skeptical. Another lame platform game grafted onto funny cartoon characters? *sigh* But a voice inside me said, you know it might not be that bad...
Then I read TFA...
"ADULT SWIM is a phenomenon with young adult viewers who identify with the edgy, irreverent tone of the shows and the block,"
Turns out it is going to be that bad.

Considering Adult Swim, is intended for viewing by Adults, will the games be rated M or get neutered down to T?
You know, considering the fact that most if not all of the adult swim shows could be done in Flash and noone would be any the wiser, I wonder what the graphics on these upcoming games will be... Hopefully they'll stick to 2D... Actually, I think a 3D game with well-animated, high-resolution 2D sprites could be very enjoyable.
Maybe they could make a Family Guy: The Game..
Oh..
Wait...
...I'd rather see a Venture Brothers game.

It'd be cool if it's Brock that gets incapicated somehow and Dr. V has to actually pull his shit together, take some valium, and get in his dad's mecha suit to wreak havoc on the Monarch or some shit.
THIS THING CAN TURN ON A DIME, MACROSSZERO STYLE ALSO FUCK BETA, ~NYORON
What they don't mention is that also Midway picked up the rights to other Cartoon Network shows such as Ed, Edd and Eddie. Basically this was just a grab-up on Midway's part, and they will probably make horrible games for each and every one they grabbed. Just imagine: Aqua Teen Hunger Force Cart Racing!
If it says "for teenagers", it's for preteens. If it says for "young adults", it's for 15-18s. People want to be older than they are until they reach 23-24ish.
Sealab will be a classic point-and-click adventure game.
Aqua Teens will be a Space Invaders ripoff (the moonians are the only good thing from that show anyway)
Harvey Birdman will play out like a Japanese "visual novel" or dating sim (minus the dating)
Brak will be something along the lines of the old Monty Python game (not Holy Grail, the other, totally irreverent one)
Venture Bros. will be a platformer
I think I covered all the non-anime shows.
Seriously. Sam and Max was a comic book with a relatively similar mix of humor and bizarre realities, and lucas arts made a fantastic adventure game out of it so many years back.
It's the perfect gametype for something like this, because it can be tightly scripted to allow for good writers to fill it with humor, but at the same time, it's very interactive, and requires experimentation and imagination. And all the stuff that doesn't work usually at least invokes an amusing quote or something.
One time I threw a brick at a duck.
Call me crazy.
...is the fact that midway is doing the development. I mean Midway is not exactly a "home run" developer. Sounds like the're headed for a "leisure suit larry"/"BMXXX" quality game but with animated french-fries instead of boobies.
what's gonna be worse, the GBA platformer or the XBox 3D fighter (yes, I stole the joke).
Hi! I make Firefox Plug-ins. Check 'em out @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-mp3-podcaster/
Didn't Midway do the Southpark games for N64/Dreamcast/PSX whatever? If I recall correctly they all pretty muched majoryly sucked and the Southpark creator guys hated the games and said they had no control over their creation.

I can see a "Dexter's Laboratory Game" wherein Dexter must do battle with Mandark(sp?) and keep his sister from his lab.
I can see a 'Big O' or 'Megas XLR' based giant robot fighting games.
Teen Titans, Justice League and the Power Puff Girls lend themselves to an action/adventure platform type game.
The Adult Swim shows? Nope, not when some of the most funny parts is when a character sits in one place, the scene appears to pause and all you see for something like 5 to 30 seconds is the character's eyes scooting back and forth, with an occasional 'Er.. uh..' noise being issued from the character.
What are these video game execs smoking?
If you ignore the other uses of a tool, does that make the tool less useful, or you less useful?
"Dexter's Laboratory Game"
Do you mean this game?

The cartoons are already done in Flash (or at least it appears that way)... just a couple of action scripts, and *BAM*!!!11 New game!
I never understood the "Swim" part of this. What's an adult swim? Is it relating to skinny-dipping? What's this got to do with cartoons? I just don't get it.
There is, to my mind, only one Adult Swim show that lends itself to the video game medium: Venture Brothers. There are villians with legitimate empires (as opposed to those on ATHF, which have mainly delusions of granduer). There is action (as opposed to Sealab which has primarily wacky adventures). There is intrigue (as opposed to Tom Goes to the Mayor, which mostly sucks on every level).
Even then, I don't see how any of these shows, VB included, would make a worthwhile game...but hey, I'm still playing NWN every day. What do I know?
