The current financial system requires anybody who wants to exchange funds to go through a mutually trusted third party (a bank, a credit card company, a wire transfer service) who will then take a percentage of the transaction off the top. If you can cut that middleman out of the system you will save everybody a ton of money.
Your username is on your profile page, as is your real name if you've chosen to disclose it (but not the Steam account name used to log in). I'm not sure what happens if you link your Facebook account to your Steam profile because oh god who would do that, but the option is there.
Exceeding the debt limit does not mean default. It means that all further spending immediately gets reduced to the level of tax revenue; implying a 30% drop in spending.
It is up to the treasury to prioritize where the cash on hand goes.
They say they have neither the technical ability (the software can't handle the use case) nor the legal authority to prioritize payments (a de facto line item veto). They might just be lying to us, but if you believe they are capable of that, you also believe they totally would default just to prove a point.
Besides, if the government is going to pay you in a couple weeks, we swear, that would be a debt. It has just been shifted away from the people who want to lend us money voluntarily.
But printing money was one of the possible outcomes of hitting the debt ceiling. Both the Fed and the Secretary of the Treasury have the legal authority to declare that they are covering the deficit by creating money rather than borrowing it, and they may well have done so. It wouldn't have been great monetary policy, but there is a reasonable argument that it's better than default.
If it's the latter then that's a good example of what I was suggesting, but I think it's more likely the former. Effectively, had these people been given the choice of say, NWN or this they'd almost certainly have gone with NWN. His sales are likely based on people who are not much in to gaming accidently stumbling across his site, not realising there is anything better out there or previous customers who found his products in this manner etc.
I think you're entirely wrong in this characterization of Spidweb's audience. They've been around a long time and has cultivated a devoted following that actually wants tile- and turn-based RPGs. I'd be very surprised if they didn't make up the majority of Geneforge 4's paying customers. I doubt he gets very many first-time buyers on any particular title. Perhaps he'll provide these numbers in the followup he mentioned in the blog.
That audience includes me, by the way. I lost interest in Baldur's Gate 2 very early, and have never played Neverwinter Nights, but I have bought half a dozen Spiderweb games going back many years.
Same here. I was interested when I first about the Netflix/TiVo deal, but not so interested as to go out and buy a Series 3. At some point I will upgrade everything to HD, but probably not any time soon on account of how there's no money, anywhere (I've only got so many chickens for barter).
BioPassword has some kind of Citrix integration, I saw a brief demo a little over a year ago. I believe they wrote a client plugin that collects the biometrics locally and then passes them across the wire with the password.
Intended audience, I'm sure. Wee Free Men is written for kids, it's not really supposed to stand against the "real" Discworld books. Presumably the movie is going after the Harry Potter crowd.
And you didn't like the rats book? The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents actually won the Carnegie Medal for best children's book of 2001. I'm surprised it wasn't the one chosen for the movie (rats not photogenic enough?).
Space combat is WW's end game, you completely suck at it with the gear you start with. Until you've upgraded significantly and got a few more ships, you should run away from any hostile aliens you meet.
2. There is a lot of sexual innuendo, sex, and gay sex in eva. I don't know how they are handling such things now, but in the old days, they would edit *everything out* even if deleting the relevant scenes made the show make no sense. Somebody who is willing to stay up late and watch adult swim should tell us what they have done recently with the homosexual characters in samarai champloo. Particularly, the guy from holland in episode 6.
Episode 6 had a "shit" and an "asshole" dubbed out. There were no edits to the Dutchman. Toon Zone has an edit list for the episodes that have aired, it's entirely Mugen's foul mouth and painted out nipples, plus formatting things like moving around commercial breaks and cutting the credits for time.
And here's the list for Paranoia Agent, a series at least as fucked up as Eva is (moreso, I think, because PA has a better grounding in reality, at least at first glance).
They've given away free trials at various points in the past as well, but those accounts turned out to be really popular with griefers and cheaters of various kinds. Walling them off in a tutorial zone is a good fix for that.
I have mixed emotions otherwise though, EQ's many and varied starting cities and newbie zones are one of its best and worst features. They make you really feel the differences between the various races, but it also thins out the newbie characters to the point where those zones never have more than a small number of people in them.
There has to be a better solution than common tutorial zones.

That didn't happen after Bush v. Gore, not even in Florida. I don't see why Washington should expect anything different.
The new Nike lenses were the obvious next step, I suppose, not just making your eyes better overall but actively separating useful from useless information in the incoming light.
I found them a useful window into the EQ lore, personally. Xev and Tholuxe, for instance, are minor deities (the gods of luck and capitalism, respectively) who have never appeared in game, but I found them intriguing enough to work into my rogue's personal pantheon. I probably never would have heard of them if not for the server names, indeed Tholuxe may well have been created simply because they needed a new server and were out of gods.
They actually have done this already, but it turns out that free throwaway accounts are really popular with cheaters and griefers of all stripes. I imagine that's why this version is limited to only one server.
That's stretching a bit for "double tax." You pay taxes going to the mall too, gasoline taxes, motor vehicle registrations or even just bus fare, but that doesn't exempt you from the sales tax when you get there.
Netflix stopped renting porn when Reed Hastings, thier CEO, joined the California Board of Education. I doubt it will change while he still holds both positions, you can't be school board president and national porn king at the same time.
If you are the type to believe even human clones don't have souls, then I can see why intelligent animals could pose a problem.
Personally, this line of research makes me all tingly. Anyone can create a human child, it's so easy it happens by accident as often as not, but an entirely new intelligence! That's something to look forward to! The only question now is whether the bioengineers or the computer engineers will get there first.
Half Life didn't need to qualify, it went straight into its bracket as number 1 seed.
Why they didn't roll Chrono Trigger and a couple other Square games into the Final Fantasy poll I don't know. It won the Potpourri qualifier, but I don't think it's going to go much farther. It faces off against FF7 on Monday.
It's an archaic usage, "learn" was once a synonym of "teach." You'll find in Shakespeare and other writing from the period, and I use it myself occasionally when attempting to sound quaint.
Everquest has gone through several different methods of hp regeneration, but since the Sleeper is Velious era (released at the end of 2000), he probably has a static regen of some number every six seconds. The number I heard was 20,000, but that seems awful high.
However, Kerafym doesn't hang out somewhere waiting to be beat on. Waking the Sleeper is a serverwide event even if you don't kill him, and you only get one chance to ever see him.
Ultima Online, Shadowbane, AC2, Final Fantasy XI, and at least a half dozen other major names I'm forgetting, and who knows how many independant works like Rubies.
This one died from poor word of mouth, as far as I'm concerned. The only postive reviews I saw were from places RoE had bought advertising from, the current and ex-EverQuest players I hang out with who tried were all unfailingly negative.
Lineage is impossible to count though, since they don't really have a subscriber model, instead they sell play time to cybercafe resellers who deal with the customers. They still count you if you quit playing, because you could come back at any time, and if you switch to a different character they count you twice.
Most of Lineage's millions will never generate revenue again.

That was a Slate piece by William Saletan on eyesight-improving contacts and surgery.

Umm, the Adult Swim show are done in Flash, except for Venture Brothers and the early Birdmans.
