When Would You Accept DRM?
twigles asks: "Following on the heels of Apple closing DVD Jon's end run around its DRM and a British TV station offering DRM'd downloads it seems fair to ask, what DRM would you accept as a consumer? Personally, I take the view that if a song, movie, book, etc. is DRM'd then it isn't truly mine. On the other hand, if a particular piece of digital media is priced correctly (a la' rental fee) would that be satisfactory, or do you feel that DRM in any form is ridiculous?"
Everytime you circumvent DRM, you are accepting it.
It is careless and malicious stealers like you who caused DRM to be invented, as a burden for the honest people out there.
Hypocritic asshole.
Great attitude. I suppose we all may as well have gotten used to Hitler too
And we have achieved Godwin in the first sentence of your reply! Magnificent!
You can't take the sky from me...
Mixtapes? You mean music that you copied and gave to a friend whilst keeping the original for yourself? That's a breach of copyright. And you wonder why copyright holders are keen on DRM? You wonder why they don't just trust you?
You know, sometimes talking about Nazis is necessary. Like, say, when you have an evil monopolistic organization waging a campaign against free speech...
All data is speech. All speech is Free.
everyday there is a filesharing/warez topic on slashdot and everyday it breaks into 3 camps of thought.
1. I will never pay for anything, or use any DRM because I have a brain, no money and the ability to get it for free.
2. You warezerz are scum and I hate you because you dont waste thousands of dollars on shite like I do.
3. I dont care either way. What is a movie? What the hell is an iTMS??!!??
Im getting bored of reading the same debate every day!!!

I dont know anyone who likes apple. I dont know anyone who owns an apple. I dont know anyone who buys music from apple.
I do know lots of fellas who use bittorent. I do know lots of fellas who use newsgroups. I even still know people dumb enough to use kazaa and edonkey.
I don't think he has to ammend anything for stupid idiots like you who can't read the rest of his sentence.
Fuckwits like you make slashdot not worth reading.
Now go back upstairs and cry to your mommy.
"Once you share something, you should not have any control over what the recipient does with it. Sure, somebody might try to sell your code, but that doesn't diminish your ideas, nor does it diminish the ability of others to build and share."
Well two things.
The content providers aren't "sharing", any more than Ford is "sharing" when they sell "value" to you.
Two the sharing ebodied in the GPL is for two purposes. Destruction of the "Information Economy (Alan Toffler)" and the Wal-Marting of the software industry.
