Hopefully soundcards manufacturers will actually work with F/OSS developers by 2010.

Maybe, just maybe, they can get software mixing to work not only for ALSA apps, but for the OSS subsystem too!

Are you referring to dmix? Just enable OSS emulation in ALSA and have OSS applications speak to that, works like a charm.

And while they're at it, they can come up with an audio editing program that installs directly from one package and has features comparable to those of Pro Tools or Cakewalk SONAR. I'm waiting...

I'm at the conference now. Excellent turnout, excellent presentations. Too bad the announcement didn't make it to the /. frontpage, readers here seem awfully ignorant about the great advances in Linux audio. Oh well, the Linux Journal will run an article about the event in an upcoming issue, as will the Computer Music Journal. Btw, this event includes a number of concerts of music made with free software. Some terrific stuff is being done with Linux audio/MIDI software, and this event is a superb place to hear/learn more about it. Many thanks to ZKM and associated sponsors for hosting the conference ! :)
