    If you read Knuth's Selected Papers on Computer Science, you'll see he argues that algorithmic thinking is fundamentally a non-mathematician way of viewing problems. And besides, as other people have stated, Software Engineering is just a subset of Computer Science.

    How does one determine what the equivelent hybrid/electric MPG is? I can think of two ways of comparing it to gasoline, but both of them are variable (cost and power), so I don't see how you could get a meaningful comparison.

    It should be easier to get the source to highly customized software. I mean, what's going to happen if I download the robot garage software? I'm not about to start competing with them.

    You would think the major cost would be building the actual garage. Not writing the software to run it.

    Actually, the reason Ruby's migrations (which is what you're talking about) doesn't support foreign keys is *because* not all databases support them. If they were just looking at MySQL, they would have been thrown in as well.

    The first edition of Agile Web Development with Rails didn't use migrations, but added the tables by manually and used foreign keys in the examples.

    I blame the overpaid CEOs. For just a small reduction in their rediculous saleries, they could avoid overseas outsourcing and kept technology jobs here, which is one of the best ways of reinvesting in technology.

    Sounds like an urban legend. I once had a highschool physics teacher prepare us for college by telling the story of the girl who wakes up to find her roommate murdered and written in lipstick on the mirror "good thing you didn't turn on the lights".
