Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Besides the Micro and some more Revolution details, the Nintendo Press Conference also set our eyes on a new trailer for the upcoming Legend of Zelda title. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, to be precise. Gamespot has a run-down and the trailer. From the article: "Yeah, we'll repeat that for emphasis: in the new Legend of Zelda game, Link will apparently be able to turn into a werewolf. The gameplay effects of this are only hinted at in the new trailer; oddly enough, it appears that Link will have some kind of partner in crime that will actually ride him like a horse while he's in wolf form." Update: 05/18 19:42 GMT by Z : Changed link to Gamespot's more in-depth trailer analysis.

    From this article at IGN:

it appears that they think Link will turn into a wolf by night, and Zelda into an eagle (or falcon, or something) by day, sort of along the lines of the characters in the movie "movie Ladyhawke." I'm just basically parrotting this from the article, though.

I think it could lend itself to some interesting gameplay. Maybe cooperative multiplayer, sort of like with Tingle in the The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker? Hopefully it would be more in-depth than that was, though.... My wife was bummed to have to sit out all of the boss fights. :(

I haven't seen the eagle mentioned anywhere, although I did notice it in the trailer, but from what the previews I've read say about the story, I'd wager that the eagle is not Zelda. The person riding wolf-Link is apparently named Midna, and my guess is that she's the Twilight Princess from the title. In the screenshots of her riding on Link, it's clear that she has a similar appearance to the black portal that opens up in the sky in the trailer and dumps out monsters.

The previews have also noted that Link transforms when he enters the "Land of Twilight." This rules out a day and night basis for the transformation. However, your post does make me wonder about something else. If Link becomes a wolf when he enters Twilight, perhaps Midna, as a creature of Twilight herself, is transformed when she leaves. It's just as likely that she simply waits for him to come back, though, and the eagle is something else entirely. Perhaps the ocarina returns as a way to communicate with animals. Who knows?

Wasn't it Shigeru Miyamoto who commented that he'd like to see Dinosaur Planet be a Star Fox game, thus beginning Star Fox's ignominious slide into mediocrity?
