George Dantzig, 1914-2005

Markus Registrada writes "George Dantzig, the inventor of the Simplex method for solving Linear Programming problems, died on May 13. He was also the now-legendary student who turned in solutions for what he had taken to be a homework assignment, only to find out they had been posted as examples of what were suspected to be unsolvable problems."

yep.. spiced ham if i remeber right. the spice was added to masq the taste of preservatives in the early renditions of it. The spice eventualy became one of the "selling points" after WW2 when the GI's returned home and it was offered to consumers.

The Monty Python skit was a play on all the different ways solders would prepare the spam and the taste for it that they brought home from the war. My grandfather went on a revisited spam kick after watching that. Told me all about how it could be used for anythign regular ham could be used for and then some. I even grew up on it back when it was actualy econimical. Now it is somewhat expensive.
