Google Launches Summer of Code
chrisd writes "We're very happy to launch the Summer of Code today, and I thought Slashdot readers would be interested and might even help us spread the word (We have a flyer, even). The program is designed to give computer science, and other, students a stipend ($4500) while they learn to release and create open source software. We're working with a variety of Open Source software foundations and organizations and we hope to sign up around 200 developers. We hope the end result will be more open source developers! I'll be pleased to answer questions in the comment stream about this program. Thanks!"

Here's an idea: learn to be flexible or shut the fuck up.
Java is heavily-encumbered -- for that matter so is KDE, although one suffers from draconian upstream licensing and the other ignores user feedback. I'll let you decide which is which.
This is all about open-source software, and by implication, free (as in speech) software. Those terms do not describe QT or Java.
Try porting a QT app to Windows and see how open Trolltech is. Ask Microsoft how Free java is.
Learn to work with more than one software package. It'll make you a better, less whiney person.
I suggest you use that extra time to masturbate. Then maybe tonight you won't blow your load before I'm done pulling your pants off.
