1st Blade Server That Supports Both Intel and AMD
An anonymous reader writes "According to the Inquirer, Pogo Linux just announced the first blade server in the world that will accept both AMD and Intel blades. This will probably shake up the Blade world because users won't be tied into one hardware platform anymore. At $10k for 4 blades, KVM, and switch, it's making blades more affordable than ever."
Now how about some benchmarks.
Generally sticking with one vendor for a given environment is a good idea. Also, the AMD64 blades do have fundamental differences from Intel's EMT64 architecture, and I wonder how well those would talk to each other.
It's nice that the backplanes and cabinets support both, but I don't think I would want both running at the same time on the same server. I might like to have an Intel blade rack and an AMD blade rack, but not combined.

You can have both Intel and AMD blade servers within the same chassis. The only thing that would make this different (and their site is not very clear on this) is if you can have both an Intel and an AMD processor within the same blade module.
