JaRule is likely endorsing whoever promises to legalize marijuana. Vint Cerf is likely endorsing the person that best represents his values. Since he is (presumably) a leader in technology and slashdot is a place for geeks, his opinion may well be relevant for the readers of this site.Stick around for logical fallacies 101.
The problem is that this engineer's should be extolled for endorsing Obama based on the qualified reasoning and logic behind his endorsement, even if those reasons are strictly based on the internet and technology. Instead, he's being extolled for endorsing Obama based on the fact that he invented the internet. It makes for a catchy headline, but it's not logical at all.
The results demonstrate that democratic economists lean left and republicans lean right. Economics ought to be unbaised. The fact that it is baised indicatse that economists can't be trusted to understand economic issues objectively.
...for financial institutions. I work at a Financial Firm in NYC, and we don't even have coffee makers in the kitchen! And they took away the vending machine. Bottled water has gone up from $12 for 2 cases to $16. I've been reduced to filling up my bottles at the sink, and shorting Google. If you're a Shadenfreude, you've enjoyed this post.
Before the iPod, there has been no distinct road map for Apple, at least no easily identifiable one. Now they have iPod/iPhone/Macbook/iTunes tied together in a very unique way. I'm sure with or without Jobs, they'll continue to build on the success of these platforms, though I expect more evolution than revolution... maybe come up with an iLCD TV, which would be derived from the iMac + iTV.
The DelFly Micro, which looks like a dragonfly, can fly for 3 minutes at a maximum speed of 5 meters/second. It could be used for observation flights in difficult-to-reach or dangerous areas
How can it do that, if it only flies for 3 minutes?
The only thing that would collapse under lower pricing of ads is those that sell ads, ie Google, Yahoo, etc. Those who purchase ads, however, would flourish since these ads would become cheaper.
IBM makes me work 60 hours a week. You see, my employment is contingent on something called utilization. My target and tenure is such that I can't meet my target unless I work 60 hours a week.
IBM Makes you Work? MAKES you work? You make it sound like slavery. This is employment at will. You don't like their policies, pay, or heck, their cafeteria, then quit.
If you're still there and you are so displeased then you either are a fool for not finding a new job, or you can't find a new job because you are a fool.
Of course it also amazes me how popular these social networking sites are with adults.
Well, it seems to me that you are either easily amazed, or you don't fully understand what social networking can be used for. My parents are immigrants and social networking has allowed them to get back in touch with classmates they haven't seen in 40 years. It has also allowed them to keep in touch with family members, share pictures, etc. Perhaps you can't find value in social networking, but that doesn't give you the right to blithely dismiss other reasons for its, use or to disparage those who do use social networking websites.
What amazes me, however, is how you received a +5 Insightful mod. -1 Ignorant would be more apt, IMHO.
Steve Jobs is definately a creative entrepreneur, but he is also a lucky one. He had a good product in the 80's, arguably better than Microsoft, and their business performance was polar opposite to Microsoft's in the 90's. Luck plays a role in the success of their business, and it favored Mr. Gates now it favored Jobs. Apple did a good job building on the momentum of the iPod -- even the 'revolutionary' iPhone and new Macbooks are building on that momentum. Jobs' management style is the same now as it was back then (isn't that why he got fired?), check out the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" (not a documentary, but portrays his traits fairly well I think). I'm sure there are various styles of management with various success rates; the other side of the equation is the workers -- and how they respond to a particular management style. I also think it's important to realzie that Jobs looks really good because there are a lot of incompetent people at the helm of Apple's competitors.
Seems like part of Apple's OSX success can be predicated on the fact that they release their own hardware too, which allows them to streamline the two in a much more elegant package. Microsoft packes their XBOX w/ their own software, which allows them much greater creative contro -- they should package Windows into their own computers too.
What if someone sends you a SMS, and you don't have a subscription? You'll end up paying for the received SMS texts, charged at a premium, b/c you don't have a subscription.
There are about 30+ companies that exist, which capture 'wave' power. Two to come to mind are Ocean Power Technologies & Blue Energy, though to me, Blue Energy's method seems more efficient since it uses predictable current, rather than waves, to generate power.
I'm glad they made the right decision, but shocked that it was so close (5-4). I'd expect more intellectual honesty from Supreme Court judges. You ain't kidding. Here's a book you may be interested in reading, "The Dirty Dozen: How Twelve Supreme Court Cases Radically Expanded Government and Eroded Freedom" Found it here: http://www.catostore.org/index.asp?fa=ProductDetails&method=&pid=1441386
but what about the electricity required for the A/C to cool the room back down? The same can be said about the benefits of not having to heat your room if you're in a cooler climate.

Backdoor? That's nothing. What if I log into a table (which seats 10 people) with 1 friend... or worse, 8 friends -- and then work as a team.

...has Pamela Anderson been given the news?
It would suck if the batteries are the same ones used in Dell laptops. If they explode, its users would have a tough time trying to get away.
ah... in that case, bravo.
Yeah, I hate the way the media have manufactured this McCainmania, portraying him as almost the Messiah and so on whilst giving no coverage to Obama.

This doesn't bode well for for monogomous relationships, where the male has surpassed his life expectancy.

Correction, Phelps has already been in 3 Olympics.
